2025/26 David Moyes

Look at the players who came in

Alacaraz - Gets game time most weeks and started last round.
Tim - Has started games this season
Dibling - Came on in the derby so can't be far away.
Coleman - Played last round
Mcneil - Played last round
Travers - Played last round
Barry - played last round.

This wasn't just a wild selection for Moyes.

Those 6 are all without doubt first choice players. So the manager left out over half our best team. That's a mad team selection away at top flight opposition. Its either arrogance or very misguided.

You can't compare the last round. That was a hone game against third tier opponents. We simply aren't good enough to rotate and beat Premier league sides. I'll try and find it, but I saw a stat yesterday that backed it up.

I'd suggest it's prudent to play the best team available, in an effort to win a trophy.
The team that finished the game should have been there or thereabouts been the team that started the game, and changes made once we were ahead (which I like to think we would have been).
Moyes, on reflection, perhaps may feel that this should have been the approach last night. He decided differently and, in all honesty, I probably would have done what he did regardless of whether or not I regretted it now.

Reaction against West Ham required now.
This, I think, is the main consequence of last night's defeat ...

Sometimes age has its benefits: I've seen my football club lift 2 titles, 2 FA Cups and a European trophy...and a few Charity Shields...and get to a load of cup finals.

If I was a young supporter in my 20s or 30s I'd be walking round punching holes in walls today.

I have no idea what level of torment these lads and girls put themselves through. I'm not 100% sure I'd have stayed the distance tbh. I salute them for their fortitude.

Moyes would be my mortal enemy under those circumstances. I dislike him even having experienced all that success.

vek's on fire, strong desire rages deep within... 🎶

Moyes is afraid of everything that gets in the way of his easy achievable target of mid-table: he talks down the stadium seeing it as more of a hindrance than a help; he talks up late arrivals rather than being thankful £100M was spent in the end; he looks at the LC as a competition that crowds out preparation for PL games.

He's a horrendously negative manger who's acting like a dead weight on this club.

He may have suited the previous period he was here when we were in the doldrums and needing solid percentage decisions; but he is way out of step with this new era for the club.

I said last night that ultimately the owners are to blame here for not having the balls to tell him to sling his hook this summer and go with their own first choice. I think that's right and they need to start planning now for Iraola or Glasner or similar for next summer if we dont get a European spot.

This cant go on for two seasons. No chance. It'll stop our evolution from where we are to where we're destined to go in its tracks. Moyes must be replaced at the end of this season.

He’ll hit the targets for this year in my opinion but the big challenge will be the next one which is my contention.

From what Kinnear has said he’s mentioned top half and a deep cup run. I think that’s the bar for this year. Can Moyes do it? I’m sure he might be able to get us into the top 10, who knows what will happen with the FA cup. There’ll probably be a view on the type of finish also e.g did we push Europe all season or did we do an Allardyce and make it thanks to some final results at end of the season.

The problem comes after that though because I imagine the target for the next season would be European football and targeting trophy wins. To do this Everton need to start winning away at top teams, winning derbies, going for wins when opportunity is there rather than draws, getting close to 2 points per game.

That’s the challenge in my view that Moyes will have to face if he achieves the first year targets. That’s a level he’s never reached at any team and it’s not contentious to say that. As you know I argued the toss with you for years over Moyes’ first spell but people need to recognise the landscape has changed. It’s also the reason why comparisons to Dyche or other managers under Moshiri is completely redundant. There’s no PS&R concerns, there’s no debt issues, there’s no sell to profit, there’s no absentee owner. The Friedkins will have targets, they will expect them to be met, if they’re not there’ll be no sentimentality. That’s the reality

Not at all surprised. Balance is the most important thing in football. You make that amount of changes and it goes out the window.

And you'd think with Moyes and all his years experience and knowing how desperate we are for a good cup run, would heed all the obvious warnings....nope.

So our Cup record since his return is

Lost at home against Bournemouth in FA Cup 2-1
Won at home against Mansfield in League Cup 2-0
Lost away to Wolves in League Cup 2-0

It's not good enough

It was unnecessary because we don't have a game for 6 days , we don't have European fixtures , we are 6 games into the season and we're playing PL opposition away.

I'm not really sure how you don't get it.
And we had a team certainly for the last 30 minutes to win the game but for 2 goalkeeping mistakes. Result could have been so different.

Play Pickford and we don't lose that game. The other changes are irrelevant to me that is my point.
