2025/26 David Moyes

Apart from the reffing, Moyes hadn't them prepared for first half.
Staight from the second half the pressing and block were much better.

Long ball can help to get them into better shape, they used it the wrong way in the first.

They needed to gain a hold in the middle, Gana found himself in places of play where mistakes quickly opened things up for the other.
He had won of his poorer games but the legend that he is made up for it with a cracking goal.

Moyes has got work to do in getting a midfield that can hold as well as play.

Much better in the second half, but a different half where they had to chase. Did well in not conceding off the counter.

Loserball manager who doesn’t understand the team he has and what they’re good at. Sees a good team and immediately thinks negatively as the best way to play. This is an attacking team. The best players are all attackers. The goal should be to open games up and try to win 3-2. He’s trying to keep it tight and it can’t work because it puts pressure on players that aren’t good enough.

We beat Wolves 3-2 and then we pinned a negative Villa team back that settled for a point. You can't actually think we should have been more open today given their attacking players?

When we were more open we scored and they didn’t. So yes I really think the plan should have been to attempt to outgun them. Believe it or not we have the players to outgun them! Maybe not every time but it would have been a contest.

Don’t know where else to have this Moan but here seems sensible because it’s tactical.

Really can’t fathom the short quick goal kicks to defenders we play. Almost every single time it results in a few passes between the defenders a pass back to Pickford and then a hoof up under pressure. I’m presuming they’re trying to play out maybe and the defenders aren’t comfortable passing it forward or the midfielders aren’t showing? Either way I find it strange we are persisting with this

And the other thing is it’s absolutely nonsense to not be using good players off the bench much earlier when you have to score. Just nonsense to have the only attacking subs in the second half be with 5 minutes left.
I don’t agree today. Against villa I think that was a valid criticism but today we were actually playing well in the second half, changing it would have been a pure punt rather than the obvious thing to do.

We were the better team. No point chucking on players, losing control and being killed on the break.
We lost the impetus around 75 minutes and he needed to pull the trigger.

Again this is misunderstanding the modern game and what subs do. With 5 subs it is no longer a choice whether you’re subbing or not. If you don’t use the bench you’re playing from behind.

It’s not a choice anymore. In the 5 sub world you have to have plans for how to use subs every single week. When you don’t you’re setting yourself behind from everyone else.

It was a contest and our defenders wouldn't have coped with your tactics.
