2025/26 Jack Grealish

I'll be honest, Doucoure would have been a good rotation option and certainly a great option late in games off the bench to inject some energy or change our shape. Not for the wages he was demanding though, maybe I'm delusional but I feel given the financial struggles the club have been through surely the players would have had more of a level head when being offered new contracts etc.

That said, Grealish though ay? What a baller
He was a great player at times and sometimes even fantastic, but there was more games where he went missing Doucoure.

But, that goal v Bournemouth and giving it to those lots fans in the final Derby means he will always be welcome back for me.

Disagree I thought he was more of a 10, like he literally said himself he’s a 8 who plays in a 2, not a 10. Modern day ‘10s’ have to press etc.

We’re short of a 6 still, I think rohl will play more as a 8

There’s no way we sign Grealish. Even on loan. He’ll end up at Napoli or back at Villa. They have European football to offer.
Thank Christ, the guy's awful. Work rate, assists...nothing. Swerve.

It is early days though, we haven't played anyone good yet - and if he gets a knock and we sit - our neglectful summer of business in defence will be obvious. That's not on Jack, obviously. We need to ook after him is all and keep our fingers crossed.

Moyes 'he's better than I thought' statement was good in a way. A bit clunky like Moyes can be at times, but a thing he did pick-up on which I think is spot on is the effect Jack will have on other players. Dwight, Ndiaye, Dibling, Alcaraz, can all improve, learning from how Jack's carrying the ball forward and finding space. Albeit Ndiaye and Jack do an equally decent job of that ( I think Ndiaye's contribution last year was similar TBH, just had even less of a team around him).

But Jack is lifting the team, I've been surprised by how much. Great to see Garner being a nuisance around the box, Gana shouldn't be allowed to shoot, ever. And Barry and Beto will link-up better with more match time.

We'll need that step-up in belief and play from the others if/when ever Jack's rested or whatever. Lack of Europe won't hurt either this year if it means a tilt at one of the cups. But push come to shove, I'd take Jack fit for a season, and top half, over a cup run. That's not defeatism - just being rational on how 'kin thin our squad is!

Signing Grealish came with obvious risk and caveats, which may still come to fruition. But Everton have to take a risk in the market to start progressing. Buying mid-ranking European footballers only gets you so far.

Grealish represents a different kind of ambition and has a level of quality and confidence that hasn’t been commonplace at the club for a decade or more. While it petered out at City, Moyes has a proper talent on his hands and can make Jack the star man - a role he wasn’t going to achieve under Pep.

Early days and it’s still in the ‘getting to know you’ stage but I think this is intelligent business for a club who have been very sketchy in the market for too long.

All of that is true mate.

There is a love in at the moment - but if he picks up a two month injury - many will turn him and say we are wasting 200k a week etc, wage thief etc.

Guaranteed.
