Summer Transfer Window 2025 Thread

You're reacting like it has happened , it's one thing to be like I don't think he would be an effective signing as his passing is wayward and he's sluggish it's another to be like oh God our transfer window is ruined now when nothing has occurred, it's hyperbolic doom mongering
I think you're taking certain posts and certain posters rather too seriously, then. I mean, look at my avatar, for heaven's sake... Not everything written here is all that seriously intended. In fact, in the other thread, I have actually said I'd give Moyes the benefit of the doubt on this until it actually happens...

But if people want to "overreact" or overreact to apparent overreactions, well, who am I to criticise?

Activate the @NeilMorepies - your hour has come
Well… he is still quicker, more experienced, and with a better range of passing than all other DM’s mentioned, and he is exactly the price £15M-£16M that us being bandied about as what we have left in the kitty.

With Armstrong departing on loan, and Jose being sacked at Fenerbahce, it appears that the stars are aligning to bring him in.

He would leap at the chance, as he has supported us since he was a young boy in the slums of Belo Horizonte, dreaming one day he could emulate his idol Lee Carsley and step out onto the pitch to Z Cars, wearing the blue of mighty Everton.

Soucek is a good player and really improves us, its one i thought we'd try and do all summer to be honest.

I would ask the question - is it worthwhile investing in a box to box type when Armstrong just keeps battering milestones and opportunities - really don't think he's far off.

The appeal of Soucek is he's versatile he can play a number of roles but also his experience.
Some physicality, I'd prefer a 6'4" 23 year old from Liege with a big afro but we aren't in that place now. Someone is going to throw themselves about a bit and look after the smaller lads in the squad, also having someone that can win headers further forwards when we're trying to get out from being pressured further back will be welcome. Even if it means oppo CB's can't double up on Barry. It's not a premium signing, and I hope the numbers aren't massive, but if it's some form of plan B side setup, so be it. It can't all come from Grealish and Illy, they need some of the heavy lifting done to.

Going to nail my colours to the mast here - I don't want Soucek and I think signing him is potentially a failure of the new transfer committee

There's no world in which Soucek has been identified by any data-led process as what we need in midfield

He's slow, he can't pass, isn't mobile enough to make many tackles/interceptions - his whole game, as a midfielder, is about being a presence in both boxes - for a team who've just bough a load of low-socking wearing, maverick footballers, we need midfielders who can play through lines etc and get those togger-merchants on the ball. Soucek is pretty much the opposite of this.

I think we've has a really, really progressive window up to this point but this signing allows Moyes to indulge all of his worst tendencies and I'm disappointed that the structure has allowed Moyes to get his way on this.

Disagree lads i think he's a very good impactful player.

Id accept an argument on age profile vs investment etc.

But he improve us.

Its a weak spot, i know we beat Brighton, but we absolutely got mullard and lost the engine room battle vs Leeds.
Have you ever watched Soucek play mate?

Baines isn't in the dressing room mate he's a coach. Coleman yeah he does indeed have him, given his current level of fitness the past three years, why you reckon he got an extension and who pushed for it....
Baines?

Who's first team coach now btw? Is Alan Irvine not allowed in the dressing room? Just wondering...

Yeah I really like KDH but he was bullied out the game by Leeds’ midfield and we had no physical option to go toe to toe with them. There will be other matches and situations like that.

Ideal world I wouldn’t necessarily want that to be Soucek but it’s something we do need and if he brings it so be it.

If a Centre mid who scored 9 goals - more than any of our strikers last season - is not sensible then we may as well pack it in
Honest to god people on here would base every transfer dealing on basic G/A stats

This would be a moshira era signing. Age, price, fit for the team and leaves on a free after we struggle shifting him a few years later

Why would we try to replace Gana with a like for like player? Building a team for continuous relegation fight?

As good as Gana might be, good and successful teams don't have room for a player with his profile.

Gana is useful for Everton as long as Everton set up a team to have less than 40% possession. As he is mostly useful when the opponent controls the ball and the match.

If Everton ever are going to have any kind of success in the future, they must get in players that are better in possession. By increasing possession, we won't need a destroyer type on the midfield.

Fulham is a good example. Palhinha was fantastic for them, but it was very difficult for them to get a balanced midfield with him. After selling him to Bayern Munich he was replaced by Sander Berge. A "worse" midfielder for a third of the money. But better on the ball, quicker, covers more ground and better next to the midfielders they had in the club. Fulham became a better team by "downgrading" their midfield. They had more possession, took more points and goals against was down 15%.

By all means, play Gana when he is available and needed. But looking for a like for like replacement is madness.

Mate Gana played for PSG and some well… I wouldn’t class them as a team that doesn’t have much possession

Did you go for a pee when he scored the same amount of PL goals and got more assist then our top scorer and most creatively direct player last season in Illy from a deeper position, imagine what he could do if he could "get around the pitch".

Oh yes, funny when West Ham got hit on the counter multiple times last season because this caravan toeing gorm couldn't get back to cover.

I am assume you missed this because you was busy copying that weird helicopter celebration he does?
