Re-claiming the city of Liverpool

I still haven’t come back down to earth yet after yesterday.

(to be fair, it is a long way down from the 61st row of our new reidence 😕)

One thing that struck me yesterday morning was how visible Everton was in the city centre.

A constant stream of blue clad fans along Paradise Street and Hannover Street heading to Liverpool One bus stand to catch the 929.

And I was early, around 11.15.

I can only imagine the scene an hour later.

Then as the bus made its way along the Strand there were hundreds walking.

Walking back along Regent Road was like Wembley Way on Cup Final day.

What I liked best was stopping for a beer in that pub which used to be called the Jurgen Klopp.

Now an Everton pub 😂

On into town and Evertonians were visible everywhere.

One of the by products of Hill Dickinson will be to make the club’s presence felt in those touristy areas around Pier Head and Albert Dock on match days.

Let people from other lands that there is more to football in Liverpool than the RS.

Excellent post. We stuck by our team through thick and thin. I remember shouting words of encouragement at our players when we were 2-0 down against Palace and it seemed like we were done for.

This is our reward.

Sign 4 players on the same day, get permission from McCartney (probably not his choice TBF) and then do a Yellow Submarine announcement parody. It'll put that Southampton goalkeeper 💩 Neiler posted to shame. Fly, Everton...fly; realize your potential.

How can we reclaim a city we’ve never lost?

Everything is relative I suppose. My oldest brother (born in 1945) used to say that when he was in school that nearly all of his classmates were blues, and reds were very much the minority. My youngest brother (born 1954) said that by the time he went, most of his school mates were blues too, but there were a fair number of reds (especially as it was the start of the Shankly era). I was born in 1964, I would say it was roughly evens by the time I was at school (1969 onwards). My kids are all in their 20s now, but when they were at school (3 different secondary schools) they all said that they were very much outnumbered by young reds (at least 2 or 3:1). If you ever go to town in search of pubs screening our away matches live, and their game is on live at the same time, we are always massively outnumbered (and they're at home). Yes, some out of towners come to Liverpool just to watch it in the pub here. Before the TV clampdown, many pubs in town only showed them (despite us being away), and you had to go looking for a pub showing us. I think the club's own planning literature stated that they outnumbered us 2:1 in the city-region.... and I would say that our "1" is an aging group. The new stadium at least ensures that we now have a far bigger presence in the city centre on matchdays. Hopefully, it also makes us a far better prospect for attracting future generations of Blues..... of course, a few trophies would be even better.
