Summer Transfer Window 2025 Thread

This is it - good post mate - in additional to revenue streams.

The plan needs to be not for next season but for 2030, you need to plan in advance for 3-5 seasons time.

That's the game now.

Plus, producing a surplus youngsters that are saleable for proper money too, a la the Chelsea model, which in turn helps pay for senior players.

Take your point mate about our un-readiness for this season at full back, but haven't we just done what you're praising Brighton (Cucurella) for in picking up Anzou?
We were never buying a first choice LB this summer. We had 15 players to replace with a limited budget and only realistically going to get c4 definite starters. You can’t really blame the committee if both LB got injured in the last week before the season started.
I’d expect one more ‘starter’ given Jack, KDH and Dibbling (if he signs). The others will be squad fillers (experienced or with potential).

Its the rise of what i think of as "Portfolio clubs" mate - players aren't players, they are are viewed as investments, they aren't bought for their ability to play for you for the next 5 years, they are bought to be put out on loan like battery hens, fattened up and sold off. Brighton do it to a smaller extent and City as well - to be very fair to City though, they do give them a chance in their first team.

Take young Dibling, Chelsea had him there for free about 3 years ago from Southampton, he got home sick and it didn't work out - but this week we will pay close to a deal valued at £42 mill for him.

There is a whole market Chelsea, Brighton and City inhabit we ae no where near, snap up the best young talent all around the country and sit and wait - Chelsea and City are the best at it domestically, Brighton internationally. We need to get competitive in this market. I dont see it as accidental we have recruited admins involved in this at City and Utd.

If we did it here it would be a massive mental shift, take someone like Azou - you buy him - but you never see him, you farm him out to say Germany or Spain and then sell for £20 mill in a couple of years. I think we would really struggle with that concept day to day here.

The club needs to be attractive enough to get kids and their patents to want them to go to the club.

I’ve seen it with kids / youth footy on Merseyside.

Ten years ago you’d never see City scouts watching kids / youth games in Liverpool.

Now they’re everywhere and patents are happy for their kids to go to their academies, as even though the sensible ones know that there’s very little chance of their kid ever getting in the first team, there’s a strong chance of the kid eventually going onto to be a pro footy player elsewhere.

I wonder as well if some parents also just like being able to say “my son is at City”

Sounds totally grim.

Its an excellent point mate, its like the RS selling players - you say to yourself how the F did they get that fee for them.

Its because the baseline standard is very high and the perception is just below that is still very very good.

Same thing with the City and Chelsea academy - its seen reputationally as given a kid a great chance of a career in the game and to be fair it is true, just not necessarily a future at that club. Reputational saying you were in the City academy i think immediately makes you more marketable. They also pay them well and look after them to. Its all part of it and you cant blame parents. Its a great package on offer. You look at Delap, Sancho, Palmer, Luiz, McAtee, Harwood-Bellis, Frimpong, Lavia, Olise, Diaz, etc.

There was a time we were seen as very attractive for young players to come to. We need to get back to that.

Guys our fellow posters want to come in here and see relevant transfers being discussed, not tactical debates or top blooing or your personal scouting recommendations. This isn’t a chatbox that you churn 10 pages of non related passive aggressive debates over long standing marginal differences in. Check your egos and be a better part of online community please.

@GrandOldTeam do I get the job? Any job please.

No. Not even close. Just said cucurella was a 23yr old who played a couple of full seasons for getafe in la liga. Anzou has played 15 games for valladolid in the spanish 2nd division. He's an inexperienced kid.

He played for Valladolid in La Liga.

That inexperienced kid was amongst the highest rated defenders in Europe for defensive stats.
