We needed a reserve striker. Preferably one with more potential than Beto. Unless you're very lucky you don't get much of a striker for less than £50m.

Thelwell had Guirassy lined up for 9 millions.

I appreciate your point of view but there no way you have to spend 50+ on a proper forward these days, especially 30 million pound ones not deemed ready for the PL.

No. But those that had seen him play mostly agreed that he was not ready for Premier League.

If we had money and a half decent striker, Barry in as a punt wasn't necessarily a bad idea. But massively overpaying for some well hidden potential when a new number 9 should be top priority this summer never made sense.

Moyes for all his successes in the market was never at his strongest with strikers.
He needs one who is willing to ‘run the channels ‘ endlessly chasing long balls .
In his first tenancy here the standing joke was that he used to break all the strikers.
Only Yakubo enjoyed any real success under him .
And he was built like a tank. Very effective though. Is he still playing ? Must only be in his early 40’s ? Could still do a job here.

Who says he isn’t ready?. He scored 11 goals last season and helped his team get champions league football. It’s not like he’s some 18 year old from league one, he’s nearly 23 and has come from LaLiga, it’s absolute bollocks that he can’t get in our team ahead of Beto.
