Summer Transfer Window 2025 Thread

It is up to the manager to play to the strengths of the players he has. There is no way we played to the strengths of Beto, KDH or Ndiaye yesterday. Beto is what he is. Expecting him to suddenly transform into Duncan Ferguson is nonsensical. We absolutely need to strengthen but the manager also has to put the players in the best situation possible to compete and do their best. Moyes did not do that last night.

The amount of players we still need at this stage is pretty embarrassing to be honest. What are the recruitment team doing.

We need a starting RW and then another wide player for depth. We need a proper RB and have done for years. Need a quality starting CM that can take the ball under pressure and take us up the pitch. Need a decent back up for Gana who won't be able to play all the games at his age and will be at AFCON. Need another striker in my opinion and who knows what's going on with Aznou but we currently have no LB. Absolute mess to be honest. Can't believe how bad we were last night against a poor Leeds team.

Tried to read the last 10 pages but I couldnt do it to myself, its not like us Evertonians to overreact after a very poor performance 🤔
I'm going to the Hill Dickenson for the first time next Sunday and I'm going to try and keep my positivity hat on until at least then (it wont be easy).
Yes we were terrible last night especially in the first half, our midfield were non existent, there seemed to be a lack of leadership on the pitch and too many players playing out of position meant they reverted to how they played most of last few seasons i.e. if in doubt pass it back to Pickford so he can launch it forward to DCL.
Hopefully Myko will be back for Sunday which will give the team far better balance, Garner back to partner Gana and then Grealish in place of Alcaraz. There may be an argument to play Alcaraz instead of Gana who I thought was very poor last night but I'll leave that for another day.
We need more signings and hopefully they come in early this week but even if they dont I am confident we will get a much better display on Sunday. UTFT

We've appointed the wrong people to oversee recruitment. What was their track record to be appointed to these roles ?

Who are these 5 number 10s you are referring to?

Its nowhere near the same issue as a few years ago as klaasen, sigurdsson and Rooney to some extent at that point in his career only worked in one position.

I presume the 5 you are referring to are Alcaraz, N'diaye, Grealish, KDH and McNeil? All except Alcaraz are better deployed in a different position.

Why Moyes insists on putting alcaraz on the right, I don't know. We would have been far better, even with garner at left back. Starting with KDH next to gueye, Alcaraz in the 10 and McNeil on the right.

It is a similar position to back then but we have better technicians who can operate in other areas but all excel as a number 10.

The issue also is that they're all very much the same type of player - close control, possession based, and like to play in front of the defence. We need a player who'll get behind it.

Gnonto didn't do much last night in terms of end product, but he gave O'Brien a horrid time and got into our box plenty. We dont have that type of profile player.

However thats not to say all these number 10s can't play together. But its all down to the manager who i dont think suits getting the best out of that collection of players. He likes to fix broken things rather than create something.

But there’s no point having an Ndiaye, getting a Grealish a Dibling, KDH if Beto is your number 9. Grealish skipped past a couple of Leeds players, rolled a ball into
Beto and it bounced off him back to a Leeds player. Grealish must have wtf

Im glad we didn’t waste money on
Gnonto, nowhere near good enough

Sunderland have managed to sign players who would walk into our squad and improve it.

We on the other hand seem happy to fanny about and give sentimental contracts out to players like Coleman who are of absolutely no use on the playing side.

They better get busy and quick otherwise they are setting the tone for failure again.

I had us finishing anywhere between 12th to 16th at best, but after last night not even sure about that.

Clubs a mess.
This. Moyes and Kinnear have both commented on the challenge of bringing players in which just doesn't stack up when you look at the recruitment Sunderland have done. Everyone was mocking that Xhaka interview when he clearly didn't know much about the club, but they got him in and he played on Saturday. Diarra had a great game. Yet we're just grumbling about how hard it is to sign players. Xhaka and Diarra would both have walked into our starting 11 last night. I don't understand how we've managed to continually employ people in the recruitment department who are so incompetent. Stop making excuses and start signing players.

Maybe put Garner right back as there doesn't seem to be anyone decent out there and go for the following positions
Centre back the Polish lad from Arsenal or a freebie like Lindelof or Zouma
2x right wingers - Fellows,Dibling, George, Rowe or someone from France or Portugal
3x Midfield - Lopy, Hackney, Knight, Diomande,Luis,Brownhills (for the numbers),
Striker - anyone

The problem said does the club have the funds to do much now

Whereas others would argue, that with with the numbers of players out already in a paper thin squad, and therefore a whole bunch of players out of position. They were the best tactics we could have come up with, and it didn’t suit a number of other players.

Unless we have a coherent squad, players have all sorts of different strengths. We played in a way that suited some and not others which is the best we could have hoped for.

We are 5-6 players off an optimal sized squad, with some of those not being played because of injuries, because of a lack of fitness (because they have only just arrived), because of a lack of experience and time to get over exactly how Moyes wants them to play or stand react at set pieces, etc (because they have only just arrived), or they are just not good enough for the first team.

Last nights performance was absolutely predictable, as many people predicted we have written off the first month of the season “to get up to speed”. ANY points are a bonus, until we can get enough players in to have proper training sessions and everyone is fit enough.

The whole preseason has been utterly pointless and achieved nothing. Loss upon loss because we are way behind every other club in the league.
