Summer Transfer Window 2025 Thread

Grealish is a mismatch when it comes to Moyes tacitic no matter how I think about it. KDH not so. It is obvious they are way down the list that compatibility is no longer in consideration and we have to sign someone just to boost numbers.

I posted in 2023 that id like KDH as hed add balance with Garner and Onana anchoring deep behind them.

His signing makes sense, not at a £28mil fee and not for a team aiming for Europe who are apparently going for a rebuild.

I think Grealish is a gamble from Moyes to keep the fans onside more than any on pitch plan. I expect him to just give him the 10 and let him do what he wants.

Then for Moyes to somehow devise something totally alien to his managerial career so far and fawn over him.

None of the promoted teams won until well into the season last year. I think I saw someone say it was October. They were all in trouble from early on.

Yes fair point. I think the pattern tends to be they fall away, I might be confusing it with the season before.

Id also add, I think West Ham are hopeless.

We have NO right winger.
We have NO right back.

Im not sure how much more linear you would want the line to point :)

Do you think a team would be better off having quality right sided players...OR to improve the stronger areas of the team.

Doesnt take a wizard to cast spells on some...just Davie Moyes.
I want us to do both. Less concerned about RB but we need RW, although we have players who can do a job there for now.

Priority is to improve our creativity JG / KDH do that

Seen the narrative starting to emerge of if we pay what said ts want for Dibling then that could mean we don't strengthen at RB or CM - so is it wiser to drop down to a lower more affordable target, Boyland suggested this yesterday as one idea.

Thing is though - whose to say we do that and don't get the other ones in anyways.

False economy, you choose your target and unless they aren't attainable - then you should go get them, even if you have to pay more than you'd like to do. Dibling is obviously valued by the club as a player who can go to be worth 100m etc so it's the club now thinking about a lower future profit making them hesitate.

TFG and more importantly the recruitment team put together by them which are under the spotlight right now. Forest and Sunderland business are casting a light on our apparent unprecedented summer and as it stands we've added a few decent t signings with potential a solid player in KDH and a high profile lauded loan deal - but end of the day it's a loan and in twelve months he's gone - so hard to include him in the view of have we rebuilt to the degree needed.

If Barry ends up our big transfer - one surpassed by around 4-5 signings from forest then ultimately we have sold a lie about the degree of rebuild. And it seems more like a typical Everton type summer.

If we do not get a genuinely good right winger in then they've dropped the ball big time, maybe hiring a guy known for being a hard nose haggler over pennies as the head of recruitment isn't the smartest idea in the current climate of football deals.

But at least he can say he never wasted any money on overpriced deals, be sure he won't have made them.

I actually agree with all of this, and it underpins a lot of my frustrations.

On Hammond, this is always part of the problem when you essentially break the role of DOF up. If you give a guy a job to negotiate the cheapest deals, that's what he will do. I've worked with loads of people who just don't see the bigger picture. They do their job, as set out.

The other big red flag for me, was Kinnear and Hammond telling everyone prices would go down in August. I don't know what that was based on. I think the opposite. I do wonder now, if we have some alternatives to Dibling, that may have been say 20m but the season has started, and they've seen us bid 40m for Dibling and are just quoting us that.

I'm not going to be completely unreasonable. KDH, Barry and Aznou seem like good buys and Grealish too. And in a "normal" summer it would have been good, but not when you've lost 10 players or whatever.

To put it into context - Sunderland this summer have signed Diarra 25m, Adingra - 20m, Xhaka - free, Sadiki - 14m, and Alderete -8m.

All of those would be squad players minimum and upgrades over our bench - several of them would be starters and better than what we have.

That's good recruitment and for Sunderland yes maybe they overpaid on Diarra to get him in quickly and maybe overpaid Xhaka in wages to get him over the line.

Recruitment is about knowing your level and buying at the top of that, seems like we have either over estimated our pull and wasted time and effort on players really had no interest, or if we don't get Dibling then again we've tried too high a level in money we are willing to spend.

Both are signs of very bad recruitment
After only one match into the season? Amazing to draw so many conclusions from close to no information!

If we're still planning to get two wingers who can play on the right , we should get the more attainable one now while negotiating the deal for the higher profile player. I know it's the championship but tom Fellows looked pretty vibrant and effective yesterday, if he's still available for a decent price bring him in until we can sort out a bigger target rather than leave massive gaps in the squad

I’m another who doesn’t understand how Forest are being run. Are they just thinking sod it we will take the points deductions if we don’t get Europe or whatever. I don’t really understand it at all.

The more dithering over Dibling we do the more we have missed out on others now too. Don’t get me wrong there’s no way I would have wanted us to pay near 40m for Hutchinson but 25m for Doak seems good business. Why weren’t we all over that?

Reports are Douglas Luiz now close to Forest aswell so there’s another good quality midfielder we have let slip through the net.

We are desperate for a good quality right back
Two good quality right wingers
And a midfielder.

If we manage to get these in we have had a great window but my concern is now we don’t and that’s it. If it is, we are in trouble in my opinion.

On the contrary I think Moyes has signed Grealish and KDH in panic moves as hes failed to improve the team this window and is blaming anyone but himself.

He has no option but to play them over Alcaraz. Hes stubborn and when he blows big money on a player he will stick with them (Beattie) unless theyre truly awful (Kroldrup) and hes got no choice.

KDH and Grealish are a pair of unwanted players hes signed in a panic. Both happen to naturally be best in 2 of our best players positions. Why is Moyes improving the strongest areas and not the weakest?

Where is the transfer strategy? He'll be using players out of position it seems, again.

You know Alcaraz has played for Juventus and Flamengo right? Two top sides playing tippy tappy football recognised his talent and wanted him.

But hes best on quick, direct 11s where he can be brilliant on the transition. On a counter attacking side he should be one of the 1st names on the teamsheet.

He wont be because Moyes has panicked.
Have both been on the list of players the club has wanted for a long time we even wanted kdh in jan couldnt get the deal done, then grealish has been talks since may . So not signed as a panic at all have been players we gave wanted. Agree on that moyes is not a perfec manager and has made some bad choices but to say sogned grealish to keep us fans on side. I dont think would have even been in his head. It is a risk but a player like grealish who was available on loan at this time is a chance we should take. Could easily take us up a level if he is motivated and get him back to his best. Something we would find very hard to even get to his quality on his day this window. Moyes is under massive pressure this window is not like he has bk anymore. With the new owners he must push on this team or will be out

One real positive is we will know one way or another how this window has panned out in two weeks time, then everyone can get on with moaning about the season. Will be nice to read about how crap Moyes is for other reasons, blame him for other things than how crap this window has been!

Should have done that weeks ago
