Summer Transfer Window 2025 Thread

Seems to be people starting to downplay how much we need to improve the squad. Making excuses, ‘it’s a tough window’.

Such an easily satisfied fanbase.
Tend to agree we still need five players.
Here is the team from the first game last season:

Likely our starting line up against Leeds will be

Pickford (same)
O'Brien (improvement) - Tarkowski(same) - Branthwaite (improvement) - Mykolenko (same)
Gana(Same) - KDH (Improvement)
McNeil (Same) - Alcaraz (improvement) - N'Diaye (Improvement)
Beto (improvement)

Bench:
Travers (improvement)
Keane (same)
Barry (improvement)
Armstrong (same)
Aznou (improvement)
Keane (same)
Iroegbunam (same)
Coleman (same)
Tyrer(improvement)
Heath (improvement)
Who on that bench can make an impact apart from Barry/Harrison/Tim?and remember we can make five subs now

Pad the squad.

I will point out we currently do not have a right sided midfielder or natural right back at the entire club mate.

I'd say having to play a very mediocre left winger as a right midfielder when he has no right foot and never looked beyond crap there might require more than padding out the squad.

In terms of padding out the squad though, yeah cone afcon we will have one winger at the club in McNeil, two centre mods in garner and Tim and one proper fullback in Mykolenko
We do have players who can play in those positions though regardless. For RB we technically have 4 players who've played there for us at different stages and 2 of those actually are natural right backs anyway..

The difference is, of course, in the actual level of the player we're wanting for those positions, particularly at RW - which I've agreed on numerous occasions IS a priority position that we really should've sorted even long before this current summer window..

Still doesnt mean that we wouldn't be alright with Ndiaye/Alcaraz/KDH/Garner slotting in there to do a job (notice I haven't even included McNeil). Do generally agree though that a new DM would be handy with Gana heading to the AFCON later on.

Its a long season ahead. Its better to make sure we get the right players in, even if it means a slightly sloppy start to the campaign.
As much as i wanted things done quicker, we have to get the right ones in.
Our best season in recent memory involved the late signings of Barry, McCarthy and Lukaku if I recall correctly.

Comparing with last season though is moot, everyone is improving and we struggled for half the season.

It’s “everyone is improving” during the break and “weakest Prem ever” when we get started. I think I’ve seen weak Prem shouts every year for a while now. Odd when everyone is improving during the summer.

All the selling clubs will likely get worse. That’s what happens 99% of the time selling clubs have to sell.

Than a bunch of the buying clubs won’t get better. Man U have spent 1 billion since 2021. 1 billion in five years and finished two places below us last season.

We are getting more players. But not everyone is improving. It’s never been the case in prior years and won’t be the case this year. 1 billion in five years is why Moyes dithers. They can afford to waste money like that; we cannot.

Don't think any team outside of the established 'top 6' has especially strengthened yet. I actually think we've done alright so far comparatively..
If we can keep our defensive solidity and add a little bit more in attack we'll be extremely dangerous. I think DH's ability to turn and pick a pass or run in midfield will open up all sorts of opportunities for NDiaye and Beto that just wouldn't have happened last season where literally nothing came through the middle. Dibling in too and a few squad players and I think we'll have a really good season.
