We're not without tricks here ourselves, get he player to agitate, take our time - Southampton will have transfer plans of their own, will need to reinvest in the market to strengthen, their aim will be promotion - stakes are big for them the later they leave this.
Yeah it worked with Gnonto.

Is it? Still nearly two weeks
Err no mate.

Someone will need to be registered by 12pm Friday. So that's around 9 days left.

Plus if they don't play against Roma they won't be starting against Leeds. So that's down it down to 4 days.

Plus if they don't train with us this week they'll unlikely play against Roma. So that's what, 2 days left?

It's McNeil against Leeds.

Which is fine btw

If we walk and it turns out that Southampton were full of ish with their claims of the lad being in demand then this could go really pear shaped for them.

I maintain - that 'counter offer' they came back to us with was a joke and no way are any other club agreeing to something like that..

This is the weird thing. Even if there are other interested parties, nobody is agreeing to that clause.

And Southampton, at no point, have said he's not for sale.

It's a hard negotiating position, but it is a negotiating position. Suppose it's whether we can be bothered playing the game for much longer. Southampton clearly in no rush and keen to see how much they can squeeze out of us (which is fair enough).

Might need to take a step back in order to make two forward.

Exactly, Leeds could have been promoted year 1, if they accepted our offer and reinvested a reported north of 20 mill offer.

Either way they were left with a disgruntled player who didn't contribute to that failed season for months.
Dibbling wants to leave I will be amazed if he’s still there he plays for them on Saturday

It's really not but each to their own.

Not looked great there on the right, pretty ineffective I'd wager.
I doubt he'd be playing on the right. Sooner Ndiaye or Alcaraz I'd wager. The pre season games so far haven't been an indicator of anything set in stone as far as XI's go, as Moyes has himself admitted.

Southampton will also be trying to flush out other interested parties and start a bidding war to meet their conditions (they have history of this with Lavia)- the Ornstein leak was purposeful "If you are interested this is the price you can have him at" to the market - if no one else comes forward, we are in compromising mode.

The leverage we have is the player wants the move, Southampton need to be promoted and 40 mill is a huge enabler for that, while the dudes contract is running down significantly beyond this window - he wont be this high value again.

If they keep the player and don’t get promotion next season then he’s got a year left and goes for absolute peanuts. No idea why the management team at Southampton are getting any credit whatsoever. Firing Hassnhuttl, hiring Jones and Selles, backing Russel Martin ball to replace it with Juric who is the complete opposite far too late. Years of selling their best players to Liverpool on the cheap and overpaying for their cast offs.

Their management has driven them to two recent relegations and the way they’re shaping up I wouldn’t back them for promotion next season either. They’ve not got a clue what they’re doing and I’d back our recruitment team over theirs every single day of the week.
