Does being relegated mean they have to sell now?

By the looks of it Southampton have set a price and we haven't met it. Same as what we did last summer.

We rated Branthwaite and didn't want to sell on the cheap. Southampton have every right to do the same.
Player v Club.
Picture the scene if it was us.
Fans bricking it thinking we lose our best players for buttons in a fire sale after getting relegated.
Say no as long possible on the hope a big 6 team pays over the odds for a player who has been part of a team that failed last season.
As it gets closer to end of window agent realise their asset is about to spend a year playing behind closed doors in a league where the team has zero assurance they will succeed.
£30m+ add ons when Tyler not Durden realises he's no Brad Pitt is a Kings ransom for that racist/misogynistic Rupert Lowe's ex merry men

Be interested to know what wage he’s looking for. If it’s not that high you can spare the money for a higher bid. Every 10k pw adds 2.6 million to the overall spend over a five year contract. If he was only on 5k pw at Southampton then you might get a decent wage deal. Then a high bid to get the player wouldn’t be so painful.

I'm not sure you can call Wirtz unproven.

Has he played in the PL before?

Better players then Wirtz have came from the german league and bombed in the PL.

Feels like a league that has a low success rate for transfers. So to pay £130m for a player is a massive gamble imo.

No matter how much the kopites claim he's the second coming of de bruyne.

A bit frustrated with the negativity.

He is 19, very talented and has had a lot of admirers. Has shown glimpses of what he can do in the PL, even for one of the worst teams ever.
We know current prices are insane.
He is currently on very low wages (5000), so this equates to quite a few mills over contract length. (5 year contract 40k vs 100k equates to 15 mill less in wages f.ex)

Worst case?
In 3 years time, he´ll be 22.
If he is subpar, we will recoup 20-30 minimum.
If he stinks the place out, we will recoup 10-20
If he is ok, we will get our money back with interest.
But most importantly, if he can develop his talent as is expected, we either have a world-superstar or at least double our money.

Besides the mental pressure, I really dont see the problem here. This is EXACTLY the kind of signings we should be making, combined with a few experienced pros. He has the X-factor, is young, english, fearless. The kind of player that will make you stand up when he gets the ball.

Doesnt mean the investment will pay off, and will for sure be off-periods.
But then again, no guarantee Kubo would succeed either, and he is much older, and much less likely to provide a profit later.

Also baffled that McAtee or Fofana are considered safer bets, they have hardly a bulletproof PL track record and are practically same price. Our current position dicates we either gamble on talent, or go for second-best established players. Both are gambles, but young players retain value better, and can be developed more easily.

I am over the moon that we are even in the race for these type of players, its a gamble i would take 8 days a week.
Totally agree. Hope we can get him signed asap

Hes likely to break our transfer record.

If he flops we will be lucky to get loans for the next 4 years, not sure 30m is achievable.

But hey, lets hope the people in charge know what they doing for once.

For the record im not against this signing, its risky, for a lad who has done zip IMO, but hey, its the right type of signing we should make, so heres to selling him for 150m in 3 years.
By your calculation, that’s one hell of a risk . Like betting a grand on Barlow or DCL scoring a one on one . I like it .

Can you hear the Kopites claim? No, no. Can you hear the Kopites claim? They will claim anything, ooooo, ahhhh!

Cant see it catching on.

So we balk at Kubo's pricetag and Fofana being a tit but are willing to more or less match our highest fee ever (who was crap) for someone who has never really done anything?
Yes, but you're buying potential. Newcastle spent practically the same on Anthony Gordon 3 years ago and all he had done was shown himself to be fast and scored about 4 goals, most of which were horribly deflected.

A) No. But he's got an exceptional record in Germany.

B) name them.
