Summer Transfer Window 2025 Thread

Let's say Grealish and Luiz are two of our biggest targets, in fact our top targets in their positions - it's impossible to sign either on loan until the end of the window. Does that make us a basket case?

What? Why?

If we’re waiting until the end of the window to secure two loan deals as our major signings then yes that absolutely makes us a basket case.

No serious club waits until the end of August to do the bulk of their business. I was under the impression we were going to start acting like a serious club but alas it appears we’re still an utter basket case.

The clubs wont be waiting until the end of the window, they will be trying to get players in now.

The ones with all the cards are the players.

They will not commit themselves until the last few days of the window because better deals will come their way as clubs will start to panic.

Happens every year.

….’by the end of the window’ is not ‘by the start of the new season’.

I’m sure we’ll need the full window to bring players in and if that means waiting until the end of August then that’s how it’ll be.
I get waiting for the likes of Grealish on a loan and I also get we couldn't get everyone in at once due to many factors, I also am realistic about our place in the PL food chain right now. But we absolutely needed a first team right back, first team right winger and a midfielder(ok we could probably make do for two games here, but we aren't strengthening without one) for the start of the season. I don't buy it cannot be done because other clubs do these things. There are players throughout the world who want to play in the PL, yes we will miss out on some with nine other teams having Europe which is an advantage, but you arent telling me we couldn't have done more by now?

September first, I will repeat means we will be slow to start again, I hope I am wrong and you are right, but what other conclusion can we draw? When we don't have these key additions in? When they will take time to bed in when they do come in? When we literally have not one natural right winger in the squad, we will have to continue to play a CB at right back whilst hoping Tarks and Branthwaite are fit and will have very little on the bench to change the game. We are also relying on a 36 year old who will be off to AFCON and a 18 year old kid on the bench.

Whatever way we dress it up its poor and we disadvantage ourselves every season by being ill prepared and this season is worse because of the amount of players we needed. We have not won a game in August since 2021.

And the clubs that end up panicking and scrapping about for these players are always the basket case clubs who haven’t had any semblance of a plan all window.
