I think it's harsh on JOB to be relegated to first backup for RB and CB but we have to assess what's best for the starting 11 in the now and the long term future. A proper RB is better for now and the future if we can get it.

The thing that Jake enables though is the ability to go to a back five if required when hes at full back and we have required it in certain games, its like a hybrid full back/centre half role mate.

Thats not to say we dont need a right full, we do, but Jake offers us something a bit unique as well.

The other thing is - is Jake really going to get a starting spot at centre half, over Branthwaite and JT - all fit I'm not sure he is - so what do you with him then.

The other thing im thinking is if Tete was plan A, i dont think someone like Coufal is very far down the list and if we had to do something like that for a year out necessity, id be open minded with Jake at right full and have a look it again next summer when we dont have half a team to bring in.

Might just be one of those compromises, this summer.

If they weren’t, we wouldn’t have signed ten players across both teams already.

I’m more than happy with that. You can’t not play Tarkowski if he’s fit. There’s a reason we had an excellent defensive record with the Tarkowski/Branthwaite partnership.

O’Brien needs to play also and he looked more than solid when Moyes brought him in at right back. He even got up and down the right wing on occasions!

A backline of Pickford, Mykolenko, O’Brien, and Tarkowski/Branthwaite centre back pairing gives us a rock solid foundation.

We also have Patterson, Coleman (when fit) and Garner can also fill in to give us right back options. Ok people might not like those options and that’s a different argument, but they’re still right back options.

We don’t currently have any other left back option other than Mykolenko so there’s an argument there that left back cover should be more of a priority.

Because the market is less mature and transfers are a lot easier because they are a lot more affordable.

I totally agree, and that is exactly how we were playing (and playing well) in the second half of last season.

I think for this system to work better we need a LB who is close to the same level as Myko defensively but leagues better going forwards, and we need to accept that our RF/RW/RM will be less effective than N'Diaye no matter who it is, because of the defensive responsibility.

BUT I can see Kubo working well in that RM/RF role because of his exceptional work rate.

But then we'd also need to find Leighton Baines re-incarnate lol.

RB search is over we’ve got the man for the JO’B.

I'd actually overlooked Jake a little in the context of does he play if JB & JT are fit and we have a dedicated RB brought in?

Our upturn in results apart, Moyes bringing Jake into the team from January was a real plus point for us.

Does he play or is he a support act. Not giving him minutes would be a tad unfair on him I feel. He is much better than just doing cup games too of course.

Rotation with Tarky for example wouldn't seem on the cards, but how do we get Jake in the team if he was not to play RB or indeed do people want him playing regularly?

Seems a strange question to ask why we would have this dilemma, when we currently have less than 20 outfield players. It's probs more a testimony that he didn't look out of place at RB but also stepped up when asked to play his regular CB role too?

Jake till January at RB and then reassess or is there another way?

Why is it easier mate? Because the players cost less? But then isn’t the women’s team budget smaller?
