Salah’s breakthrough season came on the back of multiple good seasons in Italy and was then put in the most beneficial system for him to succeed.

If you watched Salah play for Chelsea, you probably wouldn’t think he’d go on to be the best in the world.

I’d also assume Salah’s conversion stats are pretty consistent…which is the point we’re making.

Yes, to me it was evident he had something exceptional. But even in his last season for Roma he lacked goals. He'd often miss chances. His goalscoring ability improved drastically in a few months after his Liverpool move. That surprised me. But the rest didn't, as he had already shown it in Rome. He would win matches on his own sometimes, with his pace and technique.

He benefited from a system entirely engineered around him, while I remember Spalletti here asking him to defend while not in possession.

I dont really agree with this tbh.

Roma are a big club in Italy but i think thats mainly due to them being a main stay in the league. They havent won very much and even them winning the league in 2001 was more like when Leicester won it then a milan winning it.

In fact during the 90s when Italian football was at its peak they didnt do anything, they were in Europe once in 91 then didnt do anything till 2001.

I think there pretty much the same level as us if im honest. Big club but not a elite level club.

I didn't say they were bigger than us mate.

Sorry just checking, are you trying to tell me this isn't a player stats nerds would think is good? The guy who topped the league in xG and combined xG+xA?

Also bizarre to pick considering around that time Liverpool were one of the only teams using advanced stats for their recruitment, which is exactly how they got so good so quickly, and why they made signings like this.

I don't know what any of that guff means. Were those stats reflective of what he did at Roma the previous year?

….maybe because Branthwaite was properly developed. He was always a talent that would come through. It doesn’t happen automatically, diamonds are hard to find, it doesn’t often happen.

Honestly, Joey, your preoccupation with age is almost an obsession given Branthwaite and O’Brien are 23 and 24 respectively. We don’t have a young CB anywhere near ready, although I like Billy Tamen.

I think we know your La La Land view that the Academy is a conveyor belt of super talent that would be used if Harry Catterick was our current manager but ignored by everybody since then

He was over rated when he was here and has gone backwards at spurs .

Also he is constantly injured and would involve dealing with levy

I don't think he was overrated at Everton.
I think he did very well, worked hard, caused no obvious problems although playing for a team that was fighting relegation or close enough.

Would he improve us, of course he would.
The question is if he could stay fit and the cost of the deal.
The answers to both those issues mean the player will not be at Everton next season.
