Summer Transfer Window 2025 Thread


A couple of reality checks:

My Arsenal supporting wife tells me they were linked with Zubimendi in January and were told he was effectively ā€˜doneā€™ just after the season ended yet took until the weekend to sign him officially

My Villa supporting best man says McGinn is their most important player and ā€œno wayā€ will they sell him

Itā€™s definitely unheard of for a player to leave a tournament to complete a transfer.

Itā€™s all happened pretty quickly from what I can see.

Would you rather we went in and met the release clause straight away without negotiation?

I mean no one's asking for 5-6, just one.

We can negotiate things before july 1st and then sign there, as teams around us do.

I get you want to say it's different, but it's really exactly the same so far.

I'd rather we do the negotiations pre-start of "transfer season", just like everyone does, and finish them as soon as we can.

He played the last game 25th of june and it's not like we're talking with him - he's got a highly paid agent to do that for him.

We've signed players in the past during their holidays - it's a signature by a millionaire, not a triathlon they're gonna be doing. Fairly sure we've signed players during their holidays too and they just rock up in jeans, take 10 photos and leave for another week like. If we've not done it, others definitely have.

I do think it's slightly naive, but I don't mean that as a criticism just a comment. I've heard all this 'things are different this time' stuff far too many times to just swallow it uncritically. I'll judge this set up on what it does not what it says or how it feels. So far I don't think the signs have been hugely encouraging if i'm honest, but i'm well aware that it's early days and things can change quickly.
