Summer Transfer Window 2025 Thread

All of this is self-evidently true. However, in the real world, Moyes will be held responsible for his decisions. Keane, to me, is an inevitable time bomb. The decision to keep him, on paper, might be the right one given the current options. But much of football is PR, and if it boomerangs it will be used as a weapon against the manager. He will be judged on what happens with Keane - not on what doesn't happen with somebody we never replaced him with.

If I were Moyes, I'd be praying I get lucky with CB injuries for the first four months of the season. November could get very tricky if things go south...
Absolutely mate...touch wood we come through the season pretty much unscathed.

Can't disagree with any of the above, the manager lives and dies by his decision.

One thing also told me is out budget may not be what we think it is.

It’s easy to understand the frustration from fans to the decision of offering contracts to Keane and Coleman.

Pretty sure neither of them will feature much next season and if they do then it will be seen as a huge failure.

That said we’ve only lost Young from what has been one of the best defences in the PL for the past two seasons, I don’t see any compelling evidence to make a decision to break it up to be honest mate.

It’s the strongest part of our team.
The strongest part of our team is Pickford/Tarkowski/Branthwaite and O'Brien filling gaps. Nobody is saying that should be broken up. The rest is very replaceable.

Everyone’s replaceable.

But if self evidently if we’ve had one of the best defences in the league it’s a redundant point on offering Keane and Coleman contract because:

1) They have been good enough to influence and contribute to the overall outcome.

2) They haven’t and are unlikely to, so it doesn’t even matter and not mission critical.

Still I see zero compelling reason for weakening our strongest line - doesn’t make any sense

In fact I’d be hopeful of making it stronger.

Getting rid of two washed-up players weakens nothing. I'm sorry, keeping them on is only justified by pressing priorities elsewhere AND lack of resources. They are liabilities at this point - mere bodies to help us sell the "we will go with what he have" line and hope people swallow it.

We are not dumping peak Maldini and Baresi here. We are making do with what we have because we have little time or leeway to improve these positions and we're hoping a bit of luck with injuries will allow us to get away with what is a medium-term dereliction of duty by the club. These players should have been replaced at least three years ago. It's only this mismanagement that gives Moyes - innocent of it - his pass from people like me.

It's looking exactly what I thought it might be. Many peoples expectations have been set far too high. I think we'll make a couple of Barry type signings, plus some creative low cost signings and loans.
Building steadily makes far more sense than going all 'Koeman' and wasting the lot.

All seems a good idea until you’re going into a FA Cup tie away at Anfield or the Etihad and the team sheet reads Coleman Keane after Pickford because you’ve got a few injuries or suspensions.

Evertonians at the end of the season:
‘Things will be different this summer, Moyes won’t let us make bad decisions and the PSR issues are behind us!’

Evertonians mid July:
‘Oh my god why haven’t we signed anyone? Moyes is dithering and it’s a disaster!’

The truth is we’ve got Branthwaite on a long term contract which is fantastic, we’ve bought Alcaraz permanently which is great and we’ve shifted a load of high wage dead weight who we worried we’d resign (Doucoure, Young, DCL).
All three were offered new deals

Joe Thomas reporting the club had a deal lined up for another centre back and Davey intervened to offer Keane a new deal, I never copped on he’d also worked with him before at Utd.

Well, that's DM F'd then...

Keane will ensure he loses his job next season.

See you Davey.
