Summer Transfer Window 2025 Thread

Evertonians at the end of the season:
‘Things will be different this summer, Moyes won’t let us make bad decisions and the PSR issues are behind us!’

Evertonians mid July:
‘Oh my god why haven’t we signed anyone? Moyes is dithering and it’s a disaster!’

The truth is we’ve got Branthwaite on a long term contract which is fantastic, we’ve bought Alcaraz permanently which is great and we’ve shifted a load of high wage dead weight who we worried we’d resign (Doucoure, Young, DCL).

I see the echo are saying...

Keane wasnt offered a contract

A deal for a centre back was lined up and terms agreed with another club.

Moyes pulled the plug and pushed for the club to extend Keanes contract

There has to be some reason behind this decision mate.

Moyes is obviously prioritising

If Tete comes on a free that's more cash banked for CB...ultimately he's signed for Fulham so priorities have shifted again.

I more than anyone wanted Keane gone but Moyes decided money is better going into other positions.

Well this is on moyes then...he is a top manager but he make strange decisions at times. Has been back 5 minutes at the club and obviously hasn't had to watch the disastrous team with keane defending. Had a couple of decent games at the end of the season and strangely it's enough to warrant a new contract.

In a way I can understand Keane, he knows he's fourth choice, would be a difficult decision if we tried to buy a centre half and tell him he's fourth choice, I mean how hard would that be. Or if we spend money on a good centre half, who goes fourth choice, who out of our centre halves would agree to that ? Saying that Keane has never been a favourite of mine, prone to errors and low concentration at times, but he never complains and is a complete professional. If Moyes resigns Harrison even as a stop gap/ squad filler my stance would change with Moyes, Harrison produces next to nothing, has no pace of guile, hardly ever scores of creates....but works hard, every player should work hard. Right winger is a key place to fill in my view, takes opponents focus off N'diaye and we desperately need pace up front and more goals, it is a priority signing for me and not a stop gap.

All of this is self-evidently true. However, in the real world, Moyes will be held responsible for his decisions. Keane, to me, is an inevitable time bomb. The decision to keep him, on paper, might be the right one given the current options. But much of football is PR, and if it boomerangs it will be used as a weapon against the manager. He will be judged on what happens with Keane - not on what doesn't happen with somebody we never replaced him with.

If I were Moyes, I'd be praying I get lucky with CB injuries for the first four months of the season. November could get very tricky if things go south...

This makes total sense. Moyes won't have the only say in transfers, but he should absolutely have the last say before recommendations go to Kinnear to approve finances and Hammond to negotiate the terms.

Moyes is notorious for interrogating players motives and backgrounds, and if he is not convinced he will veto the deal. I'm ok with that, it's his squad to manage. If he thinks Keane is a better bet than the other player then I'd back his 1000 games as a manager against anyone else's opinions, even my own. 👍🏻

….you don’t know who the other player is. Regardless, Moyes knows who he wants & where he wants monies spent.

Joe Thomas reporting the club had a deal lined up for another centre back and Davey intervened to offer Keane a new deal, I never copped on he’d also worked with him before at Utd.

Tbh, this is what I feared with Moyes. He does need saving from himself. It alarms me that if he had his way Doucoure, DCL, Young AND Keane would all still be here.

We all have different opinions, but I really hope someone gets a grip on him when it comes to our transfers in.

That said we’ve only lost Young from what has been one of the best defences in the PL for the past two seasons, I don’t see any compelling evidence to make a decision to break it up to be honest mate. Nor really see the reason why people would be annoyed by it.

It’s the strongest part of our team.

Absolutely. Moyes has to have veto say as far as I am concerned. That's one of the reasons we hired him: he has an eye for a player and he improves players. However, by the same token, he will be held accountable for this power. Michael Keane, with the best will in the world, is a ticking time bomb...
