Summer Transfer Window 2025 Thread

Assuming Barry signs, by my reckoning we still need...
* Backup GK
* Starting RB
* Competition for LB
* Competition for MC
* Starting Right Winger
* Competition for both Wings
* Backup FC

Even if we try and bring in versatile players to cover multiple positions, like a starting right-back who can also provide some LB competition, a starting right winger who can also fill in up top, etc.. we still need a minimum of 5 in (after Barry). Plenty of time to go, but would be nice to hear a few more solid links!

Not that I also think Beto is the answer, but if he stays fit he will comfortably get well into double figures next season for us without penalties.

He is a real handful for defenders as proven against (according to the media) the best center half pairing in the weeerrrllldd.

Not our 20 + goal striker that we want, but more than enough to do a job and a much better option than DCL.
Totally agree – I think people sometimes forget that football is a team game. Love him or hate him, Beto causes panic, creating space for Ndiaye, Alcaraz and others, which in turn leads to more goals scored as a team. A static line-leader is much easier to play against by comparison.

Granted, his ungainly style means a few moves will break down, but I guarantee defenders won’t enjoy playing against him. Beto is a great fit for where we are right now. In time, when we become a side that consistently creates chances for a striker, we might need to upgrade. But for where we are now – where he’s not only leading the line but also causing chaos and chances on his own – that’s a decent fit.

Think we need to look at a different profile of right back and potentially pay some cash. Obviously means less to spend elsewhere.
I think this is one of those that is dependant on who we can sign as a right winger (which is marginally the biggest priority imo). If we get a rapid pace merchant we may need a solid, stay at home defender (aka Mykolenko), however if we managed to pull off say McAtee for that position we may need to look for an overlapping RB option. I think Tete was possibly a happy medium that was worth the punt for ‘free’ but I suspect RB will very much depend on who we recruit for RW.

Yeah curious what we do try get a loan for somebody for the 3rd spot . Cant see them wanting to spend to much on one
Problem is teams are less likely to loan a player to be 3rd choice striker, certainly not for development anyway unless it is solely to get his wages off the books

That’s “Mr Ass” to you

I know that it's frustrating with the lack of solid links at the moment. However , it is probably better than doing our business in public. Perhaps I am grasping at straws , but hopefully it is an indicator that we are being professionally run , at last.

Happy enough with progress being made to be honest,

- Alcaraz signed.
- Clarity around contract situations.
- Two of our best players almost tied down in Idrissa and Branthwaite. Keane looking like resigning is also good news in terms of resource management.
- Young forward edging toward a move.

If we get most of the above signed off before the end of the week/start of next we will have had a good start to the window. Pity about Tete really, that would have been a very very good start.

Gueye’s contract finished yesterday. Nothing new with him has been signed.

You also factor in that we were pretty pro active in both Delap & Tete pursuits, but we got gazumped by Chelsea & he ended up getting a 4 year deal at Fulham. That would of been 3 signings in by now (Alcaraz the 3rd)
That would of been good going if all the stars aligned. And even the turnaround to get Barry sorted once we were informed Delap was going somewhere else.
