Summer Transfer Window 2025 Thread

Feel like a new right back has been number one priority since about 2018

Edit:
2017 when Coleman broke his leg.

8 years.

What a club.

We definitely refused to replace Coleman out of sentimentality, there was a weird period after his leg break where we signed players exclusively to be his backup like Martina, Sidibe etc. I reckon Brands was instructed by Kenwright to not buy a replacement for Mr Everton.

Sidibe had the pedegree to replace Coleman but he just didnt fit (similar to Lucas Digne on the other side....but that worked)

Brands tried hard for Dumfries & Liveramento at certain points, eventually the option was Patterson which obviously hadnt worked

What would be the purpose of not announcing them now but they have done others?

It suggests decisions have not been fully made....
COuld just be a case of preference from the player to not announce (probably in DCLs case) as he's seeing what options are open to him.

Keane could be different and based on Branthwaite. I think if we keep Branthwaite, Keane goes, if we sell Branthwaite...Keane stays

If Moyes rates Myko then he should probably quit.

In the list of problem positions in the first 11 it’s probably not near the top for this window. RW, RB, ST, CM all probably ahead of upgrading Mykolenko and that’s before we get to the necessary squad players like backup goalkeeper, 4th CB if Keane doesn’t sign, back up striker if Chermiti goes on loan .

That’s why I think we won’t look at Mykolenko in this window because there’s so much to do elsewhere.

Actually wouldn't be all that surprised if Myko was sold mate.

Not saying he will be - but we need to offer him a new deal or move him on this window.

I can’t see anyone else being signed or announced until after PSR period closes (whenever that is)
I’d imagine next news we’ll hear is about leavers.

I think he’s harshly rated by many. Probably the natural response from a whole generation that idolised Leighton Baines but there’s so many full backs in the prem who are terrible defenders, even ones that have gone for big money. Mykolenko shuts down top wingers one on one, is positionally sound, loves the club and always gives 100%. His attacking is improving but will never be top class. He’s a good player in my view and we’ll have to pay a lot to get better.

Thats fair mate, its a tough gig following Baines and even Digne here - he will always be linked to the Rafael/Brands axis and people like their new dawns from eras.

I think he's been a great servant, whats often not acknowledged is the lack of support with strength in depth in his position hes been dealing with during his time at the club, for my money hes been playing at times, injured and fatigued - due to both the lack of that support and the role he plays as an Ambassador for Ukraine internationally with the national team - which is very important and used purposefully - hes played a lot of football in his time here.

Id also highlight the instability since hes been here in addition - thats true of all the players but i feel he is one who probably had to make the biggest transition culturally and had the most personal adversity. Id also highlight the club has been a basket case since being here and there has been huge pressure on the players with relegation and point deductions.

I think he's a good defensive full back one on one and hes a very good man marker - that adds to the squad and hes a welcome stay, in my opinion, if we offer him a new deal.

Im of the opinion also however that we have to build on top of all our players, Myko has been good over all, but can we improve and give him more support/competition - i think we can, i think we can more add dimensions and variance to both our full backs positions.

If he is happy to stay in the above context, id be very happy, but i think there is a market for him and Napoli had an interest in him last season. Hes also an easy win if we needed to do anything from a PSR point of view.

So one to watch in my opinion whether we stick or twist mate! ;)

I would be very happy with both of them, but I wonder how much of our limited budget would be taken up by them signing.

Think that the consideration mate, personally id go and invest a decent amounts of money in 3/4 players who have a huge ceiling who are going to be here for the next 10 years and we can walk away.

In the same way we went out and spent the guts of 30 mill on Pickford, absolute value given his development, performances and longevity.

Personally hoping Dom and Keane sign on to help with the above i.e. dilution/compromising of resources.

4 quality additions would push this team up the table.

Can’t help but feel we will sell Branthwaite though if the right amount is offered, so if we do we will bring another CB in as well as a RB.

Last season highlights for Doak and just 2 crosses at height to create headed chances. Compare that with Fellows - great crosser of the ball and two footed and a lot cheaper. Doak seems a bit of a one trick pony - beat the defender, get to the goal-line and cut the ball back. Great if you play attacking MFs who arrive in the box and can strike a ball well - but that's not us at all. Doesn't seem to suit our style in any way.
He's got pace and can beat a man but very one footed. No Premiership experience and a poor injury record.
Giving the RS a pile of our transfer fund goes against the grain anyway and this signing seems full of risk.
