Summer Transfer Window 2025 Thread

I see Chelsea have signed a player on a 8 year deal. I thought teams were no longer allowed to sign players on that long a contract any more. I thought it was 5 years max.
With no actual research i would expect the 5 years refers to the years the 5 can be paid over rather than total length of contract..if that's the case it's strange to do an 8 year deal.

No idea if he is any good, but we could do with signing a right-back.

He’s a development guy, young, has shown a lot of promise for Sunderland. At the right price he could be a nice pick up to nail down that right back spot. Might need some patience (something we’re so famous for having)

I liked watching both of Sunderland’s full back last season. We probably don’t need to spend what I’d assume would need a decent chunk of money for Cirkin given Myko has shown promise, but both look like promising young full backs regardless.

Oh aye 100%, everyone has a price! But he's on a two year deal with a club opinion for another year. And you and Wolves are now a PL rival. As far as we're aware he isn't forcing a move either. So, you tell me (honestly, been away from the PL for too long now!) how much a highly rated starting PL right back with international experience and aged only 23 would be valued at to make us sell when we don't want to? And would you be willing to pay it?
The standard rate now feels like £20million for a good young player from an English side who don’t need to sell. I’d be comfortable in the 16m-23m range (incentivised) but I would imagine Sunderland would want 25m+ given the promotion and want to hold onto players and financial stability. People may disagree with that. As a Sunderland fan, would you be miffed off at selling at that range? I’d be very concerned if we went anything over that personally, but that’s just due to us still being on a bit of a tight rope this window.

They’re one of the biggest clubs in the world. They’re obviously having a bit of a nightmare but the pull that clubs like that have doesn’t just disappear overnight, it’s mad how loads of people really convinced themselves it would.

Surely big clubs that are also half decent teams and in Europe would want Mbeumo as well though?

Can sign them on however long a contract you want. Just cant spread the cost of amortisation over more then a 5 year duration.

But its chelsea and they seem to he able to do what they want when it cones to psr/ffp so who knows

Yeah, I reckon in my head I had about £30m as a “silly money, let’s just do it and get a replacement in”, without any real knowledge of the market. I think anything under £20m + serious add ons (ish) and our fans will be fuming.

I honestly think he’s the player that will adapt to the PL the quickest. And I think he’s developing into a fantastic player. But most importantly, we just don’t need to sell. It’d set of so many alarm bells at the club.

We’ve already sold a lad for 10m this summer, with Jobe to go for £25m to a European team. Plus the windfall from promotion. I’m still fully of the belief this is his agent just trying to get him a new contract.

Yeah and apparently they were, but this is what I mean, united are still regarded as an absolutely massive club and that will still be a huge pull for players. Players will still believe they can win things there, probably far more so than they do at lots of other clubs who look to be doing better on paper.

they’re going backwards

the PL want them to spend and letting them
as they want the “big 6”

back but its not happening

Hmm, if Jobe goes for £25m, I can see that being the baseline for the first team players from your lot. Attackers generally go for more and I thought Jobe was a bit more coveted, but the Sunderland board may quite rightly ask for an inflated fee to team who are now a direct rival. For what it’s worth I like Hume. We have Jake O’Brien at CB who is also a NI international. That could be a fun connection to develop. If we got Hume for £20m I would be happy with that. It’s a risk, but every signing is.

I can’t see Sunderland selling 3/4+ players this window, it would be madness to do so. So if we want Hume it’s gonna be silly money territory.

I think it’d have to be with some mad add ons at £20m like. Tbh I probably went a bit low their in hindsight but what do I know.

Talk on Jobe is that it was a buy out clause for a European Champions League club only. We signed him for 1.5m so all good on that front, and he’s not off to a PL team either.

For Hume, I just don’t see how we replace him with the pool we’re fishing in. And we’re no mugs in the recruitment department these days, we’ve overhauled it all since we last went down, so we do drive a good bargain. We have turned down so many offers on players over the last few years. So all in all, I really do think it’s quite unrealistic he’s off.

HOWEVER, if you did sign him you’ll have some player on your hands. He has it all, and fits with the type of player (from afar) I think yous like.
