I’d sign him again.

Shorter deal perhaps and not on the wages he’s been eying (though we don’t know, maybe that was just agent overreach).

I read people saying “no, we need someone more reliable”, but tbh I don’t know where that person comes from for a price we can presently justify. Strikers who are capable of (not even guaranteed) goals in the Premier League are hard to come by. DCL is on the fringes of that category and if relations haven’t completely broken down remains a reasonable option.

For me he falls into the same category as McNeil. Is he what we want for the longer term? No. But will he work if supplemented by a bit of solid transfer business around the squad? Yeah. If we can use him better and if he stays fit. Gambles both, but we’re not out of the ‘beggars can’t be choosers’ club just yet.

We should resign, as sell on value is worth something by itself, but just like everything for the next year or two DCL shouldn’t be our only option. And for me that’s the position we’re in right now; we can’t spunk money on proven quality / reliability (that comes still later), but we can (finally) get more comparable bodies in so that an injury to DCL doesn’t leave us playing [Poor language removed] like Broja or Beto.

And, y’know… but some crosses into the box.

Probably because of what he offers on top of the goals.
There’s a cherry on top of his impressive goals haul too? Hellfire, what are we waiting for….get him signed and give him whatever he wants.
How can we possibly consider heading into the future without “what he offers on top of the goals”.
He offers virtually nothing. All this rubbish about his strength, energy, hold up play and fantastic heading ability is an absolute myth. Centre halves love playing against him because he gives them an easy ride. It’s time to shake his hand ( lightly so as not to injure him) and show him off the premises.
Bang average striker in the same mould as the likes of Che Adams, Danny Ings and the permancrock from Newcastle

I'm on the fence, he has played in a Dyche team that didn't even try to score goals, I don't care who your are ,any striker would struggle in that team with that mentality . Moyes gets the right players in and sets us up right, then I think it might be worth a shot, if it fails at least we can sell him.

I can't believe there are people who still want him to sign a new contract.

The only way I’d be happy for him to stay is as a back up striker. But to be honest, I’d still rather have someone else come off the bench who is actually a reasonable finisher.

It’s been that long since I’ve seen him I’ve forgotten what he’s good at.

….not sure if Delap played but what I remember from our first game was looking at the Ipswich fans forum and how totally impressed they were with DCL.

Fans saying he was the epitome of PL striker and what they have to aspire too.

Roll on a few months and posters want Delap and are fuming over the prospect of DCL staying here.

Its a funny old game.

I wonder who the big clubs are more likely to be interested in.

Or we could be stuck with him running down his contract again. 8 years being here, still waiting for him start scoring 15+ goals a season, if he`s not missing games injured he`s missing the target for 10 or 15 games between goals.

He started off as a Mid Fielder and I always saw him as a 2nd striker - If Fit, could he do a better job in the 'Doucoure Role' than Doucoure??
Just sayin like
The Doucoure role seems to be to run around the pitch aimlessly for 90 minutes and occasionally pop up with an important goal. DCL can pop up with an important goal alright, but I don`t think his hamstrings can take much of that aimless running around for 90 minutes.
