Summer Transfer Window 2025 Thread

Why on earth would we want a backup for Mykolenko? He needs replacing himself, he should be back up to whoever comes in.
100% agree with this. I'm hoping for a situation next season where Mykolenko is our solid (ish) back up to cover injuries, suspension or the early round cup games. Desperately need an upgrade in this position, and Kristiansen is not it. In fact he is the one left back in the league who makes me feel moderately grateful that Mykolenko is our first choice left back. A truly awful player. Hoping there is nothing to that particular link

Kenny Tete
Kyle Walker Peters
Josh Brownhill

Could all be solid, if unspectacular free transfers.

With what is likely a big turnover of squad players in the summer, you will need a few 'plug in and play' Premier League players to allow possible more exciting/younger signings bed in to start with

….Brownhill has got himself into a fantastic position, been outstanding for Burnley just as his contract expires. I like Tete, think he’s had a few injuries this season.

Personally think we need to stop with stop gap/squad fillers/padding out the squad transfers mate.

Standards need to be raised and we shouldn't let players of a risk profile or make dos in the door.

Take Brownhil - we know what we get - more of the same - but we want to improve that and raise our level.

Id much prefer to persevere with Armstrong as a squad option then Brownhill.

And i actually dont mind Brownhill as a player.

Holistically there has to be a mentality shift including the fan base and i include myself in that as much as anyone.

Id much rather a smaller squad of 20 odd next season then a bigger squad of compromises of 25 - that's just my opinion though.

16 goals in the Championship is excellent.

He's always been a tidy footballer, but he also comes across a good solid professional who works hard and takes his fitness/career seriously.
That doesn't always translate to 16 Premier League goals, but someone like Sammie Szmodics did ok for Ipswich before injury

I wonder if he's just holding out for a better deal at Burnley as he is probably still on a contract from the Dyche era, whereas they have brought in a lot of young, fancier players who might be on better wages, and he feels he deserves club captain/best player wages.

100% on that, i feel Moyes also works at his best with a smaller squad and everyone is involved.

I also understand what you are saying in terms of someone like Brownhill could end up taking 800 odd minutes off Armstrong next season, which needs to be one of our key objectives next season .....find minutes for Armstrong

If Gueye went , we would need a proper defensive midfielder, which you would prefer to play with Armstrong/Garner/Iroebugnam. Brownhill would just be an addition to the list of the 3 mentioned

A possible Doucoure replacement though? He's shown what he can do with the stabilizers off and given a more attacking role

Possibly if we did a PSR flip with Garner or Tim, he would be a nice addition.

I think more my point and the mention of the 3 i just did is, every signing can't be a 'project'. It would be nice to hit the ground running for once and 2 or 3 younger versions of what Ashley Young has been, aren't a bad option (Tete & Walker Peters would probably start tomorrow if hey were at the club)

I'd imagine he's just holding out for a good deal from Burnley though

I’ve always said this squad of 25 idea is a nonsense.

Look at the teams at the very top of the league. They pretty much play the same 11 week in, week out and swap in 4 or 5 others where needed. They also play massively more games than us over the course of the season.

Recruitment need to get players who aren’t massive injury risks and then we need to be consistent. A squad of 20-21, with a few players who can cover multiple positions, is more than enough

Also an interesting list of players with only 12 months left on there contracts
Wonder if there is any scope to get cheaper deals to avoid the clubs losing them for nothing
