It's easier for teams with strong squads to give young players a chance to prove themselves in senior games. European games, more cup games with high quality players around them to help them out on the pitch.Other teams give kids a chance Citeh O'reilly Lewis. Glad to see his media training is coming in handy.View attachment 305024I was sent this by Derby supporting friend. She said he's a lovely lad, open to coming back for one more season before breaking into Everton's first team.
Can’t think of any young players we let go who went on to look like we should have kept them.….i never get this ‘they don’t give kids a chance’ with certain managers. It’s not about age it’s about whether they’re good enough. Moyes will look at any player and if he wants access to them then they’ll be in the squad.

Maybe our youth set up, recruitment and pull isn’t as good as other teams. Especially in the north west.
Lookman, but he had major attitude issues that contributed to the sale. The last one was probably Antonee Robinson, and he left Everton 6 years ago when we had both Baines and Digne on the roster.
It doesn't happen often enough to be a talking point, certainly.
All of that is right but the last bit is key. Giving a young player a chance knowing the other 10 will probably be enough to win anyway and can carry him through the game is so different to putting a player in and saying if you don’t do your job here we’re screwed. Particularly when it comes to attacking players we’re generally saying ‘go and win is the game’ as opposed to ‘go out and enjoy yourself’ like sides like city are. It's easier for teams with strong squads to give young players a chance to prove themselves in senior games. Kean and lookman have as much to do with our youth teams as Ashley YoungDon’t know about that, Kean, Gordon, Robinson, Lookman, mostly all got sold because we were impatient with them as they were developing- most thought the four of them wouldn’t be a loss - that’s a good few who are probably making our first team now who left in the last odd five years give or take.
I think historically we have managed these players, very, very badly as a club.

I’d agree with this but over the last 30 yrs, there have been very few cases where we have regretted letting an academy player go, if anyI don’t know about that either, if you look at modern development of young players it’s as much to do recruitment of potential as it is with developing lads from kids onwards.
If you are just doing one, you are doing it wrong.

I really thought Moise Kean could be an amazing signing. From academy, Branch, Vaughan, cadamarteri, Jeffers (ye he was sold), Baxter as being the main disappointments. Others, rodwell probably flopped and Sunderland really paid the price. Gavin McCann too.
