I was at the Blackburn v West Brom game the other day. Rovers are celebrating their 150th anniversary. Outstanding players from over the years have been awarded celebratory caps. The families of both Roy Vernon and Keith Newton were presented with the caps on the pitch at half time.

I think this is against Bolton. That looks like Eddie Hopkinson in goal Joey.

Didn’t Gerry Byrne play for most of the game with a badly injured arm ? No subs then. Maybe that’s when he got the injury. A season or two later Bobby Collins got a broken thigh playing against one of the Italian teams !

I don’t see Pele in that team. The only game he missed in the 1966 World Cup was the middle game of three against Hungary. He played in the first game against Bulgaria but came in for some rough treatment so he missed the Hungary game. That game was the first World Cup game that Brazil had lost...

So I don’t think the photo was taken in Mexico during the 1970 World Cup.

You can actually read the autographs. There’s a shop near where I live that does the framing of autographed shirts. He has them in the window until the owner picks them up. It’s all City and Utd where I live. I defy anybody to recognise the felt tip pen squiggles. My son won a Blackburn Rovers...

That’ll be in the FACup when he was still with Preston. Preston won that game on the way to the FACup Final in which Howard played. Big Ron was captaining Oxford.

From 1962 to 1966 nobody was better. Anywhere.

On his day the best English left back I ever saw. Ashley Cole and Kenny Sansom were pretty good but Ray was top class.

An old pal of mine played directly against Jimmy for England schoolboys against Scotland schoolboys. He reckoned Jimmy was his toughest opponent. Willie Carlin was in the same England team.

He always was a strange guy. He put in a transfer request on the morning of the FA Cup final he was playing in and then declared himself fit to play. Only to break down after 5 minutes. No subs then so Rovers had to play with 10.5 players. When Dave Whelan broke his leg just before half time...

I don’t think Dougan was actually bald. For some reason he decided to shave his head.
