Messymascot's faith in humanity and ginger safe haven

York again H? Must be the Viking Centre drawing you back?

I think this thread has been missing a bit of Hagar and Helga when I've been away.?
Should have been Edinburgh but cancelled tickets as ASLEF were due to strike. Seeing the mournfest there on Monday was glad we decided to visit the ancestral home instead.
Not missing now. lol

Yeah. The history stuff is what grabs me. Cant be arsed with yet another minutes silence and all that. Your neighbour asking to come round reminds when we went to our neighbours, (had a colour telly) to watch some NASA thing. Not the moon, but sommet, in the early 70's.
Was it the Apollo-Soyuz mission in ‘75? NASA astronaut shaking hands with a Cosmonaut in space. Was a big deal what with the Cold War being on.

Last night one of my table tennis players told me she couldn't play tonight because she was going to London to see the Queen . "5 miles of queues , 12 hour wait , you must be barking " I told her . "No" was her reply "we join the queue in Southwark".
As you know Jazz I'm generally in support of the Monarchy albeit I fully respect and understand those that aren't. But even I'm already sick of the media coverage and I've only been watching it for about 2 hours.

On the boat I tended to watch SSN, but even on that I swear every single person interviewed, whether British or not, was asked for their views on the Queen. Crazy.

As for the lying in state queues, personally I don't get it and wouldn't think of going myself. Cal was a bigger royal supporter than me but I know for certain it wouldn't enter her head either.

But I do feel strongly that it's down to personal choice and I don't think we should be judging people who want to queue for hours any more than we should judge people who don't. That's one of the things I dislike most about this forum, and one of the reasons this thread in particular is such a haven. The inability to accept or respect views that differ from your own.

Good post much my thoughts also, we now need cheering up a little.
We are all different, and as I get older I respect other people's ways and thoughts a little more.
I would not call myself a monarchist by any stretch but the Queen as just a stand alone person has always had my utmost respect, the rest of them I'm a little meh.

I quite like Charlie too LT. As Duke of Cornwall he has a big influence down here and is very well liked. He may have lived a privileged life but he has a good heart and works incredibly hard to give people a better life. I could go into detail but don't want to bore people. I also like Anne and the work she does and love the way she has raised her children outside of the "system".

I think the "Royal Family" is becoming more compact and just the Monarchs immediate family, which I think is important. Anne's and Edwards children have been brought up outside the system. Harry has decided to put himself outside the system and the nonce's children are just irrelevant. So that leaves Charles, William and his kids going forward which is something that sits a bit better with me than the extended Royal family we've been used to.

The funniest one i've seen in their desperation to shoehorn the Queen into every newstory was a report on North West news ( and this was the lead item ) on a woman who had travelled from Manchester to Edinburgh to queue to see the Queen lying in state.

Honestly you couldn't make this up.

Is there nothing else happening in Britain and the World?

And the line that "operations and funerals will be cancelled on Monday as a mark of respect for the Queen " what about respect for those that have waited months perhaps years for those operations and those families that have to postpone their plans and goodbye to their loved ones. Respect works two ways

I'm all for dignity and paying respect but this period of mourning and national flagelation has gone on far too long.
