Messymascot's faith in humanity and ginger safe haven

The only competition that we are in is to stay in the division.

I can't see that we have serious ambitions beyond that.

Gordon is a good young player with excellent potential but at this point in his career has no real end product.
Agree on the level we are competing at but we would be making even that harder by selling Gordon. - especially so close to the end of the window.

Complete opposite Blue.

I've watched both games so far this season live ( on TV ).

Yes we are different to last season.

Defending is better but don't look like scoring.
Sorry about that ,I am optomistic I really am ,not 100% sure Frank knows what is what yet but I would stick with him as I reckon Thelwell has it under control.
I do like the direction we are going in the market but I am confused ,on the TV they were saying Onana is our record signing ! He did look as though he has the fight in him ,a sharp lesson when he lost the ball for them to score -the exact opposite of Mo Besic and his first four touches .

Actually if you watched the game on Saturday Onana was caught in possession with his first touch which led to Vill'a 2nd goal.

However he made up for it with a great run and cross immediately after which Digne turned into his own net.

Onana on the few minutes on the pitch looked very promising. Massive , pace , control and can pick a pass.

However up until he came on we carried virtually no attacking threat.

We desperately need a couple of strikers.

We could but why sell one of our best prospects when we have already sold our best player. It sends the wrong message, that we are not even trying to compete.
I can see both sides of the argument Anj and the fans are very polarised about this one, for a change?.

I'm with Jazzy though. Gordon is still very much potential at this stage but what we need now is somebody who can bring us goals, not a big part of Gordon's game at the moment. Chelsea are prepared to pay a lot of money for that potential, money that could go towards 2 established strikers, one as cover/rotation with DCL and one to compliment him. We could also use the negotiations to bring in one of their players on loan too. We need some creativity and goals from our midfield too.

If we use the money well we could end up with a better squad. In effect we are sacrificing the future fir the now. I think it's the sensible thing to do given our situation, even if the heart says no.

Totally agree Fred.

It's always sad to see a youngster that we developed move on but that's the model we should be aiming for.

It's how the RS managed to build / buy a successful team.

I'm not sure it's a model I'd like to adopt. But I think in isolation it's the right thing to do now. Ideally we'd be able to build around our talented young players but our player acquisitions have been so poor lately the squad needs major surgery that we don't have the money for.

If you have not read the beginning of this thread I would recommend you do so. Karl was our mate but unfortunately he left us in December. However, he gave us this space on GOT to have a friendly thread to support each other, a sort of virtual coffee/tea house. Many of us are regulars, but we also have lots of friends that come and visit just at times. So feel free to become a regular, or stop and visit us when the Everton forum becomes too overwhelming and you need a breather from all the negativity spewed there. Either way, welcome to Karl’s thread!
Spotted this thread and like it, been spending time on the Everton forum and the place is full of know-all connoisseurs of the game, it's good to finally find a sane thread with much more balanced people on it. The thread for me from now on.
Only recently discovered this thread too. It's a nice oasis of calm away from the rest of the forum :)

SSN saying 8 weeks for Yerry. Longer than I hoped but at least this season our defence isn't a leaky gutter without him.

I know 90% of fans can't see beyond his injury record and reported salary, but he's such a fantastic character I can't help but love him.
We might love him and yes he's a character but at the risk or incurring the ire of yourself and Sassy he is of little use to us with his injury record and reported salary.

We should have sold him when we could , now no chance.

We would be mad to try to extend his contract.

Along with Gomes , Gbamin he turns out to be a poor signing and a waste of money.

There is no room for sentiment in elite sport.

Supporters of Frank Lampard need to stay away from his thread. It isn't pretty reading.

And can I just put it out there that fans of a certain age, which is most of us in this thread, will recall that we also lost our first two league games in 1984. Just sayin.
Really ? I thought we were all generally supportive of Frank . He might not have been my first choice but of the eventual shortlist was the best candidate and being a young progressive coach is an appointment I can and do get behind.

He has a difficult job and the club need to give him the tools in terms of players to do it properly

I'm now wondering if they will use Gordon as part of a swap deal for either Broja or Gallagher - which would be a good deal in my opinion.

In other news, I am getting a new work laptop tomorrow. I am disproportionately excited about this.

If , big if , we are going to do business on Gordon we have to ensure that we get the maximum value and can recruit players that benefit the team.

Clearly getting Broja or Gallagher must come into that.

If you got either and say £20m on top to buy another striker then you'd have to do that deal I think.

I think we can agree on that. lol If we do sell him then we have to have immediate good replacements. Otherwise we will just be left with the ones nobody wants and be scrabbling round on the last day of the window, panic buying.
