Messymascot's faith in humanity and ginger safe haven

Not going to lie bit of a rubbish weekend.. started with someone stealing my work laptop and a private laptop out of our house in the middle of the day.. but did end with the final episode of stranger things (awesome) and a solid party with too much alcohol .. but it was also a farewell to three friends of ours that are leaving Botswana after their time is up so bittersweet.

@jazzy you’ll be interested to hear myself and couple other mates with kids in the same school are hatching a plan to start table tennis training in the evening for the kids at the school. Hope to get tables donated and we will manage the thing… There is table tennis in Bots but it’s badly organised and hard to get a straight answer.

100% will start Banting tomorrow with one month left to go to the holiday. Counting the days!!

@Armaghtoffee that looks awesome!

That's great news. Whereabouts are you ? Table Tennis England have development grants available and always senior players to give demonstrations , encouragement and even coaching - which is what I will be doing tomorrow evening at Lydiate Village Hall.

Yeah I’m Botswana.. there is an association but one of the guys tried and got nowhere. At the end all our kids love the sport but don’t have anywhere to really play except with us and not often enough.
My 11 year old has reasonable talent and would love to play other kids more. We focus so much on his tennis but he will tell you TT is what he really enjoys most.

Just talking about it frustrates me more that I haven’t done anything sooner. So I must get myself in gear!

Not caught up on the thread for a while. Poor 4G at the hotel. Spent yesterday in bed. Felt much better this morning.

Went to see the graves of Cal and my brother this morning. Had a really could cry at both and felt better afterwards.

Then went for lunch with Cals best 2 mates. Such a good time. Then met 2 old workmates in the evening. They are a couple who both retired withing the last 12 months and I've known the wife since we were kids as she lived 3 doors away. I haven't seen them since Cals funeral and before that for maybe 5 years. But the friendship was so real and meaningful. You could cut it with a knife.

Feeling a bit confused. I love Cornwall and love living there. But there's also a lot more love than I realised in the old city. Maybe the answer is to continue living in Cornwall but have frequent holidays in Liverpool.

Anyway, sorry I've been ignoring you. Two heavy days coming up so I may have to catch up after I get home on Thursday. I'll probably have lots of time?

Nice to hear from you Fred and this is the decision you said you would make ,have a great time and cry as much as you need .

Schools are a great place to start. Interestingly we also target tennis clubs too. We don't want the kids to stop playing tennis and play TT instead but rather play TT in the winter.

When I coach tennis players they have great basic skills and usually good hand to eye coordination but their strokes are too long and because of the speed of returns we need to shorten the shot to get them back into the default / ready position for the next shot. On the other side of the coin their footwork is usually fantastic.

Good luck , it's a shame you aren't closer I would have loved to have helped.

Crying is a great release, so cry as much as you want much better than bottling things up. Enjoy the rest of your holiday!

Near where we live we passed a sign in English and I have wanted to stop because it was for Border collies ,so of course we stopped yesterday and the husband is a scouser .What a small world he comes from County Road.
He is training and selling the dogs as proper sheep dogs working from a whistle ,one is off today to Korea .This world never ceases to amaze me . Sadly because of Covid restrictions the cost of getting dogs and the short season for training them means he is having to go back to the UK ,his wife is not happy as they have a 4 month old daughter and came to Finland so she could be with her family .
