Messymascot's faith in humanity and ginger safe haven

I am 57 next month DV - we have both suffered as Evertonians and it goes on :)

Mrs BR and I are 30 years on 11 July DV. Been through a lot, all four parents gone. Plenty of ups and downs but thankfully hanging in together - one wonderful daughter. She is a joy to us.
July 11 is now marked on my calendar too ? We only have a daughter too and she is the joy of our lives too, along with two cats lol

My husband’s uncle died this weekend while at the supermarket, he was only 64. We been having this conversation of how hard it is going to be to deal with the death of our parents in the coming years, hopefully very far away from now but they are getting old and some of them have really bad health issues :(

Dad was my best friend, and I loved going for a few quiet pints with him. for over 25 years. He developed pancreatic cancer but had a lovely peaceful end in Blackrock Hospice shortly after Christmas 08. Mam was diagnosed in January 2017 with vascular dementia and spent mid 2018 to her death in February 2021 in a lovely nursing home. Thankfully she escaped Covid, and I think she still knew us to the end

Had a lovely afternoon. Having seen Gwladys"s pics yesterday I took another walk down Carwinion woods to see if the bluebells were out and they were, in abundance. I took 3 pics but I could have taken 3 dozen. Also out were wild garlic, wild geranium and countless others I don't know the names of. Amazing the difference in 3 weeks.

Lots of friendly dogs again, all wanting to say hello, including one called Ely who decided he was going to christen my clean jeans with his muddy paws.

Decided to carry on down to the secluded beach ar the bottom if the valley. Its on the Helford River and this side of the river is a reL sun trap. Bit stoney but really good swimming. Only sorry I didn't take my swi.ming shorts and a towel. It was beautiful and seemed at warmer than the 13 C forecast.

Sat on beach for half an hour and returned via the coastal path and up past Bisloe House, a NT property where Cal used to work. This brings you back into the village from the other side, which just happens to take you past the village pub. Well after a 4 mile hile I reckon I deserved a pint of cider.

Another milestone. First time I'd been in the local on my own since Cal passed. Onwards and upwards. Sat outside and got into a conversation on football with 2 guys, one a Rangers fan and the other United. Say no more. Anyway could have stayed and chatted but I was making my braised steak for tea which takes over 2 hours to cook.

Said steak is now in the oven and I'm sitting out in the back having a cold beer and catching the last of the sun before it disappears over the horizon.

Not going to follow the game tonight. Well it worked against United?

I’m sure you miss them both, but it seems at least they both had a peaceful end to their lives here on earth. My mum is my best friend. Even though at times she can drive me crazy with all her worries, she has been such a loving and caring mama, and she changed my destiny forever when she got married with an American and moved us here. So I have a lot to thank her for, otherwise I could be married to a Pablo Escobar instead ?

My masochistic nature means I will follow it through GOT. COYB

Might have a prawn curry shortly - having a cold Guinness atm to settle the nerves :-)

We would have been 30 years on June 20th mate. Need to think of something special to do that day.

Sorry but I don't feel comfortable calling you Rover. Seems as though I need to add so.ething like "fetch" every time I say it.

First time I'd been in the local on my own since Cal passed.

Bet it felt a bit weird. Not in a horrid way, but in a way I reckon you know what I am about. But another one of those private milestones addressed or passed or whatever.

I ventured into the local that Nik and I actually met in a few weeks ago. Probs wont go back for a while.

In cheerier news, front and back mowed today, and the back is slowly starting to look less like a bombsite and more like an orchard. And got some blokes coming round soon to clear the bottom of the rear. Half a tennis court, chock full of brambles and nettles and general neglect.

You would be a rich widow.....albeit from ill gotten gains :)

When Rovers were still at Milltown in the 80s, I used to bring my mutt along - no problem getting him in. The fans loved him and christened him Rover - he loved going to matches but never went on the field DG. Just loved the atmosphere on the terrace

Thank God for a sense of humour on this board. Jenny Agutter was a childhood fantasy - love your avatar.
Mate, I found out on the local news channel last week that she lives on The Lizzard peninsular, literally about 10 miles away from me as the crow flies. I had no idea. And Kate Bush lives less than 2 miles away. My 2 wet dreams from my teens. Who'd have thought?
