First time ever posting in this part of the forum.

I’m a therapist I’m the states and I’m curious to how Gary John Bishops thoughts and words are received over there.

I’m a big fan of Victor Frankl and his will to meaning. I just thing Gary John takes it a little further down the road with much more self accountability and honesty.

Interested in hearing your thoughts.

I'm just really, really sad about the football. It's a constant stream of negativity in my life and it seems to be made worse by the fact that every slight glimmer of hope is always snatched away from us.
I get constant pelters from friends, family and work colleagues about Everton because they think we're a joke... but it's not funny to me.
They don't realise how down I get seeing us this way.. and when I mention that I don't like the jokes they still laugh... Especially at work.
I literally wake up and the first thing I think of in the morning is relegation.. then my mood stays low from there.
How can I detach and not take it to heart? What's the secret to not being upset watching the team I love fall to such lows.

I can relate to this mate and it took one incident in the pub with a Kopite to make me take a step back and realise that football isn't the be all and end all.

As others have said, you shouldn't let Football dictate your life, there's a lot more to life than Football and once you accept that, then you will be much happier. Yes, whilst it is nice to see Everton win games and be successful, you can't control it.

You should look to find happiness from other things that you can actually have control over in life, such as relationships, hobbies etc.

People may take a swipe at you for supporting Everton and try and stick the boot in when we are down (kopites), but what I do is feel sorry for those people who live their lives through Football and think that's all they've got. Pin their success in life to their Football team, because that's all they've got. When in reality if you take a step back you will realise, that life is so much more than that.

Everton will still be here,, whatever happens and the fans will always support them. We are a community/fanbase and that cannot/will not be destroyed no matter what league we are in.
 
All I want to do at the moment is try and forget Everton, I don't have a drink problem but only twice I have wanted to do this when my Mother died and when I lost my job, I think the fact if we drop we will struggle to get back up, it will also mean Tuesday games and even a fair few Saturday matches at 3 will be difficult to get to because of work, Sunday matches were a god send and not as many in the champ.

Was when COVID hit and the uncertainty of being able to do the little things we take for granted like having a BBQ with the family or going for a pint with the lads in town that made me realise football is just a past time which needs treating as such. Then I lost a close family friend to the virus itself which put in perspective how pointless getting worked up over 11 millionaire's kicking a ball around really is.

I still get angry when we lose but you need to know when to not let it take over your mood / dictate your outlook on whatever else you have planned for the week / weekend ahead.

Like many at the moment having all sorts of problems with work, family and my stress levels are through the roof.

The thing is, I feel helpless with it all and do not believe any of it is my doing so feeling pretty sorry for myself.

Every time I get a positive, I get hit with 3 negatives.

Writing it on here seems a good way of expressing myself, not sure I can be arsed talking to people about it as nobody really gives a [Poor language removed] about much other than themselves these days in society anyway.

I can identify with that at times mate .
You kinda feel sorry for yourself when you see others do well or at least look like they are doing well.

Ah, Facebook is a grim spectacle at times. I've deleted accounts before now when I've had enough, usually when not feeling too hot.

Think we can all be guilty of looking at others and getting envious, certainly been guilty of it myself. I just try to keep in mind the positives in my life. I'll wager quite a few look at you and think "yeah, he's doing sound, wish I was in his boat".

It's the same with most social media: for most, it's there to portray the image that you wish to represent. Sadly, far too many people get drawn into it.

Last year, I removed a few of my social media accounts for a good few months, and I didn't miss it one bit; I mentally felt better and as if a burden was gone.

I only went back on because a few relatives moaned that they were no longer getting pictures of their relatives, which is pretty much the only thing I post.
