ECHO Comment: "Fears of Witch-hunt Against Liverpool FC" part 3

FA will pay for 100 coaches to get Manchester City and Liverpool fans to Wembley

The FA Cup semi-final between Liverpool and Manchester City will go ahead at Wembley Stadium, with the FA providing 100 coaches for fans of both clubs in an attempt to offset travel chaos.

The match on Saturday, April 16 will kick off at 3.30pm and be broadcast live on BBC1. Crystal Palace’s semi-final against Chelsea will be played at the national stadium the next day, kicking-off at 4.30pm, and will be broadcast on ITV.

Confirmation that the fixtures will take place at Wembley comes after widespread calls to change the venue, because no trains are running from the North into London over the Easter weekend. Supporters’ groups had lobbied the FA, while Steve Rotheram, the metro mayor of Liverpool, and his Manchester counterpart, Andy Burnham, had also raised concerns.

In response to the travel problems, the FA has announced that it will charter 100 free return bus services from Anfield and the Etihad. It believes that this will ensure up to 5,000 fans from both clubs will be able to travel to the capital. The bus schedules are subject to availability and must be pre-booked. The respective clubs will provide more information in due course.
In addition, the FA is working with its partners at National Highways to ensure that the road networks are running as efficiently as possible over the Easter period. Hundreds of miles of unessential roadworks will be put on hold.
