ECHO Comment: "Fears of Witch-hunt Against Liverpool FC" part 3

I've seen the Athletic crying about Alexander Arnold not 'getting a fair crack of the whip' at international level.
He pretty much pulls out of every squad he gets picked for then makes a miraculous recovery the week after.
What is Southgate meant to do? Keep the spot warm for him, Southgate has a job to do, and when he has a plethora of talent at right back and cant rely on Alexander Arnold to turn up, its pretty evident he will use other options

Walker and James are better than him as well. That’s an uncomfortable fact the media don’t want to admit to. Keeping clean sheets is everything in international football and both are far better defenders than he is and can attack pretty well also.

Then you take into account the attitude all Liverpool players have that they couldn’t care less for their international teams until it’s a big tournament and it’s no wonder Southgate’s got no time for him at all.

The media don’t seem to have made the correlation yet between the one England manager unwilling to base his selections on Media pressure and the relative success of that same manager.

Isn't it just a horse for courses argument?

England are lucky to be in situation where they have a plethora of good right backs. Each with varying skills sets. In Southgate's set up you can see why he'd favour Walker and James. They are decent going forward but also strong defensively. Both could easily play right-sided centre back in some systems, given their defensive ability including in the air. I'm not sure why there's that much debate about TAA playing right back for England in Southgate's system. You wouldn't;t play to his strengths and you'd potentially be able to play on his weaknesses.

Equally, and this is harder to say, TAA is significantly more talented footballer on the ball than Kyle Walker. Not so much James but he is technically superior. Therefore in the RS's system TAA is a much better fit than Wlaker or James are likely to ever be. Only really Cancelo in the PL plays the full back role in a similar manner. It's not just getting forward and being a threat from out wide, it's being able to occupy that space where you'd normally find a CM/RM. Not only occupy that space but deliver an attacking threat from there. TAA is almost the perfect RB for that system.

I barely come into this thread and nevermind post in it but I know it's not necessarily for nuanced debate. However, on a serious note the above is probably more closer to the truth than either 'TAA has been done hard done by by England' or that 'he's not as good as other England RB's'. It all comes down to system and individual attributes and weaknesses.

On the international level, TAA would be targeted by any decent international team. Walker and James wouldn’t. Southgate knows that. He can play Klopp’s dopeball all he wants, but it’s no surprise that Southgate doesn’t rate him.

Plus Reece James is a much better defender and only a little bit less good going forward, so no brainier you’d pick him.

A large minority, if not a majority of them love to play the Hillsborough card when it suits i.e they lose a big game they claim fans where defacing the memorial or making crushing gestures, or they play it when their club is being called out for operating in their typical scummy ways.

Most of them don't actually give flying one about the victims, its about them virtual signalling and trying to show the world how much of a top red they are.

Absolute shitstain of a fanbase
