…I like Digne lots, at his best he is up there with the best. The issue is, his strengths are in the attacking third and Benitez does not encourage his FBs to attack.

Digne does not fit the playing strategy and he might be too strong a character for Benitez.

This lad looks a real unit and I’ve been calling for an age for pace and power across the back four so I can’t complain. A new signing gives the place a lift.

How do you feel about having 3 of the back 4 being Mykolenko, Branthwaite and Godfrey?

An international RB who for some reason no one has heard of?

this could end very badly.

thats right, no one has heard of him.

An uncontroversial opinion.

Youve posted 4 times that "no one has heard of him".

The bloke was linked to us in early 2020 and is considered to be one of the new wave of high potential left backs.

Hes got 20+ caps for Ukraine...played champions league for years...

Not sure why "no one has heard of him"

I have lol

At last! How long have we been screaming out for a new full back, it seems we are getting our act together finally.

Hang on a min...I'm not too good with my left and right, which side does Colyman play on...:hayee:

….never been a fan of 3 at the back for a number of reasons;

- It indicates (to me) that any two of your CBs aren’t good enough. If they are good enough, you only need two.
- a back 3 invariably means a back 5. You really need specialist wing backs to make it work.
- it makes life easy for CBs but detracts from a position elsewhere.
- I like successful team models as a blueprint & I don’t see many top teams playing 3 CBs (you’ll probably tell me I’m wrong).

Hi mate if you read back i was just asking what your thoughts were on those 3 being part of our back 4...not for us to go back 3 :)

Suspect we stick to back 4 and after Myolenko and one young RB (with an engine and pace) are signed we'll also have a new DM brought in.

So is this a Benitez signing? A Brands before he left but did most of the work signing? Or a lunatic Moshiri throwing money around signing?

That's the problem which is what takes away some of the excitement a new signing brings. Dunno who's behind this one, although I suspect Benitez will have given his blessing in any case.

Although I do remember reading an article in The Athletic a year or so ago though which said we had stepped up scouting in Eastern Europe as it as viewed as a great value-for-money region.

…sorry, Zat, still getting over this detached retina op.

i like those 3 lots. Plenty of power there, plenty of pace, powers of recovery. I think you’d have to try the Branthwaite/Godfrey partnership to see if they have enough defensive nouse & experience.
