Messymascot's faith in humanity and ginger safe haven

Yeah I guess that should really have been in the Benitez thread. But I'm trying to stear clear of there because I know I won't be able to help myself, and I'm already on thin ice

This writing is nothing to do with yours its just I wanted to generate notification. Ha ha. I should have just mentioned you.

Do you agree in the odd occasion we play 3 CBs it has to be Holgate Mina Godfrey as both Mina and Keane can only play as the middle in the 3?

Most of our midfielders are better in a 3. The only 2 that can manage in a 2 effectively are Doucoure and Allan?

I'll leave you alone now but I'm always here for a crack. This applys to you all. I don't like instigating conversations the time but I do aim to get back to someone as soon as I can.

4-3-3

Pickford

Coleman Mina Godfrey Digne

Allan Doucoure Gbamin

Gray DCL Richarlison

Subs: Begovic, Keane, Gordon, Branthwaite, Dobbin, Simms, Rondon, Townsend, Gomes.

Bit of a punt on Gbamin I admit but like the idea of his power and pace alongside Doucs.

Same page as me and Fred, but your bench isn't balanced as I would like, only 1 GK for both of us how will we manage.

Never understood the need for multi keepers myself instead of letting an U23 experience a match day.

Interesting point you made about Keane and Mina only being able to play in the middle of a 3. I’m thinking Branthwaite may also be in that category but haven’t seen enough of him yet. If he is as pacy as they say, him and Godfrey could be quite a combo.

Hello everyone I want you to name preferred team in preferred formation with 9 subs if everyone is fit.

Formation 4-2-3-1

Pickford
Coleman Mina Godfrey Digne
Doucoure Allan
Townsend Richarlison Gray
Calvert-Lewin

Subs
Begovic Holgate Keane Gbamin Gomes Delph Iwobi Gordon Rondon

Ironically if Gbamin had played enough games for me to be able to form an opinion on him as a starter I would have gone 4-3-3 with Townsend dropping to the bench Richarlison RF.
On current form I'd go Keane instead of Godfrey but hopefully that will change. Doubt you will get many disagreements with your tea. which speaks to our strength in depth.

Think we are potentially missing a 'passer' but hasn't stopped us scoring so far. Maybe Gomes in a 3 instead of Gbamin?

Finally, understand why Delph is on the bench but can't imagine him offering us anything ever.

I actually think Branthwaite once he matures if he is genuinely 2 footed could play all 3 positions he looks like he'll have physicality but also has pace.

I didn't mind when it was a young GK as it was giving match day taste but Begovic and Lonergan is like The Antique Roadshow.

If Gomes is in the 3 it definitely has to be Godfrey CB as we need to play a higher line. Delph is our back up LB says it all really.

@messymascot Afternoon mate, glad to hear you're home and ready for the match tomorrow.Have you got a prediction? Its good to see the proper football back this weekend i cant watch the international stuff unless its the summer and finals.

3-1 Doucoure to open scoring after about 20 minutes, Townsend to score to make it 2 just before half time. West Ham to pull one back in the middle of 2nd half. Gray to score 86th minute counter attack goal. Hopefully Gbamin to get a few minutes.

Branthwaite is an exciting prospect but he is caught in the limbo of too good for the U23s but not starting for the first team.

That would be a great result. Would love that. Doucoure, Townsend and Gray have been great this season haven't they? Great to see abit of pace on the wings and Doucoure allowed to push forward like he did at Watford.

Needs to stay at the club so he can take any opportunity that comes along. Play him alongside Welch in u23s so they can get an understanding make his target to captain a defence that concedes few goals and zero from his errors.

When I went to Goodison I saw just how much work Doucoure gets through. He is our Essein, Allan is Makelele. Just need our 15-20 goals a season Lampard. Over to you Brands. The reason we need new RB is it makes us equal threat both sides which will create more space for Digne to get his crosses in. He's had poor start to the season.
