No Benitez team will collapse the way the Italian fraud's did last season.
I fully agree, as someone rightly stated in this thread this level of effort can't be kept up all season, but that being said the performance today was very, very refreshing and is a million miles away from last seasons final game against city, night and day in fact, whatever Benitez is doing and equally whatever anyones opinion of him is, no one can dispute that the players have responded positively to him, we should of won today simple as

Why tho?

David Moyes got 4th with a worse squad than this.
Surely you know the strength of squads since then in the PL has increased dramatically? Clubs like Man City, Leicester and Spurs were also never involved.
Back then it was Arsenal, Chelsea, Man U and Liverpool.
There’s a reason sky now call it the big 6 and that’s not even including PL and FA cup winners Leicester.

In 2005 which is essentially irrelevant to the current state of the Premier League.
I know lads, it was just bait for Dave.

I don’t know, 2004/5 was one year after Arsenal’s invincibles, Mourinho’s Chelsea set a PL points record, United under Ferguson were in minor a lull but had still just paired Rooney with Van Nistlerooy upfront, Liverpool would win the CL that season. Yes the dross of the league has improved now and the upper mid table might be a bit stronger but those top three sides certainly from that season would be a match for any of the teams playing now.

We end up with the spent force Benitez whilst the world beating Carlo and Koeman tear it up in their respective jobs ?

Anyone who wasn’t blinded by hatred knew that he wasn’t a spent force. He’d done a very good job at Newcastle and every single one of their fans and most pundits recognised that. He’s been at a couple of clubs at the wrong time but even at Chelsea he did a good job too in the circumstances. He’s getting the best out of the players we have which is the manager the club needed.

Completely agree. This is the closest I have seen to TEAM Everton in many years where we are probably exceeding the sum of our parts.

The great thing at present is when everyone's fit we have 4-5 goal threats in the side which hasn't been the case in recent seasons.

DCL
Richarlison
Gray
Townsend
Doucoure

Problem is keeping them all fit on the pitch at the same time like the dopers manage across the park.

Still think we need a Gana type who can rotate with Allan but offensively the early signs are very good.

Gbamin was supposed to be that defensive solidity wasn't he? It'd be interesting to see how his season develops.

Speaks a lot for the manager that 3 of those are realistically becoming serious goal threats for the first time in their careers.

Injury to either of Allan or Doucoure would regress us significantly. Fingers crossed.

I think actually getting on the training pitch to get across what he expects is working to high heaven. If anyone could get anything from old Trafford as a manager it’s Rafael. Plus without main strikers etc unreal
