We would have a good chance to get something tomorrow with our players back, but it's right not to rush them and allow them the international break to get fit. We need to find a way to manage our squad and avoid injuries. We have a good first 11 but our squad depth is non-existent and can't cope with many injuries and definitely not long term ones to starters.

down to the bare bones selection wise still

Pickford
Godfrey
Digne
Keane
Mina

Allan
Doucoure
Davies

Townsend
Gray
Iwobi/Gordon/Rondon

Now Benitez might go 5 at the back but i can not see that work well if we dont have a right back who is good getting forward. So that's why i think put another midfielder in so it frees up Doucoure to get forward a bit.

PS: Rondon will start but i can not see him being of much use. Rather have Gray up top so we counter attack.

Solskjaer P/C

Building on dramatic winner

We've done that so many times at this club.
We played against a very good team, dominated possession but were open on the counter-attack.
The boost, the energy has to be built on. It is a very quick turnaround. The players are not going to get caught out.

Vulnerable on the counter-attack

That is the challenge that we are facing more and more. We have got to be better at.
We want to be in the position that teams pay us such respect. There are so many things that you've got to do right.
The ball moves so rapidly up the pitch and it sometimes looks like a handball game! The Aston Villa game had 45 minutes effective playing time which is lowest I've seen of us

Solskjaer denies report Cristiano Ronaldo wants United to play faster

That is another one. Wow, what can you answer to that? What we speak about us that is between us, but we haven't had that discussion, put it that way

On Donny van de Beek frustration

You know, I manage a squad full of international footballers, competitive footballers who want to make a difference, who want to play. They all want to be on the pitch, of course they do.
Donny was ready to come on, as all players should be. I've been a sub more than anyone in this club probably - I must have a record appearance as a sub - and you have to be ready all the time. I've been not very happy a few times but that is the decision the manager makes.

Alex was coming off as a left-back and Fred did that job well. So I understand the frustration, of course, every player is keen to play, that's got to be built into energy and determination for when you get on and show me.
It's not just Donny, it's players, I've got a squad of internationals and if we're going to be successful we need positive energy, no sulkers.
Donny has never affected his teammates negatively. As soon as I see players affecting the team negatively then that's a different scenario and I'll probably be firmer

Early team news

No, Luke feels better but he has still got the shoulder injury.
Marcus trained for first time fully today.
Harry, Amad still out. We didn't lose anyone on Wednesday

Cristiano Ronaldo impact

He has had a great impact on and off the pitch.
Five goals in five games at his age says everything. You've got to manage him, he's a very good example for everyone.
Long may it continue.

Dean Henderson playing time

Both Dean and Tom are ready to play when called upon.
Dean has had problems but he is past that now and played really well vs West Ham in Carabao Cup.
David has done very well, he has handled it very well.

Solskjaer slams fixture schedule

No explanation. It is TV.
No common sense at all, we had same scenario last year when we played in Turkey and then Everton.
We have to make it happen. It is not like we did it last year so it is going to happen again.
Us and Chelsea played Wednesday and Liverpool vs Chelsea should have been the Saturday one. Common sense isn't so common.

Rondon as our only senior attacking option
Gordon as our only ‘senior’ attacking option off the bench
Centre back at right back.

Let’s be honest - it needs a miracle to get even a point here with all of the options they have.

I have to admit I wasn’t an advocate of getting Benitez in but he’s been lumbered with serious squad issues here and has done great so far.

Reckon we will be in the game for the first hour and then lack of bench options will finish us off.

if we get anything from this from this game, Rafael might reach god status lol

Rafael needs to be our best player this game, they had a midweek game, we have worked the whole week on this game

They have Bruno feeding Greenwood, Pogba and Ronaldo

We have Gray, Townsend and Rondon.

mismatch of quality, completely, but i think Ole is tactically naive, and maybe we can find our edge there

Iwobi is a doubt (apparently)
