If he's staying, Benitez needs to get over himself and get him on the pitch...the guy may be a bit of a tit...but he's a world class tit and will improve the team...which is all that matters to me, the fan
If he's staying HE also needs to get over himself and put the graft in at training etc.
I'm pretty sure that Benitez has similar feelings to yourself about James, i.e. "He is a tit, but he's a world class tit."
Even those who hate Benitez generally admit that he is a professional. I don't believe that he would let any personal feelings about the player take precedence over his duty to play whatever he believes to be the most effective team available for any particular game.
I have no doubt that if he stays, and IF he puts the effort in, he will get game time. What Benitez won't do, is pick players based on reputation alone.

Totally agree. I’ve had enough of everyone slagging him off. Did he actually say he doesn’t want to play for us? He looked really positive in pre season. People soon forget how great he was at the start of last season. We don’t have to play him for the full game every week.

Involved in 15 goals last season is a reason to use him.
Dont forget our other 'goal provider' wont be coming back.

If they are replaced with high quality i'd agree with you , but they arnt.
Yet we are still left with the crap that put us here for the last 4/5 years.
I just want us to play direct and at pace. I dont want slow build up because that's not Everton football. I'm not sure where he fits in to this system. We need to get the ball quickly to our strikers.

A fit and committed James is obviously an asset so let's see him force his way into the team. He has to earn it like everyone else. If he cant stay fit then he won't be much use.

I don't disagree with a lot of the above but get the impression that both sides have created this. Am sure if Benitez hadn't made it obvious from day one that he didn't fancy James then there might have been more of a response from James.
The impression I get, albeit only from clips and interviews, is that Benitez totally blanked the player ...not great management imo

Watch the 1st 8 games last season mate , it was swift counter attacking ruthless football and James was at the heart of it.
Its the ones with this stupid agenda that cant/ wont remember it.

If a laid back manager can get that out of him I'm sure a taskmaster like Benny boy could get more.
Point being does he want to try and get more ?

James played just fine in a team that played direct footy at the start of last season mate.

The fit and committed bit - as you rightly point out - is more of the worry.

This idea he can only play slow footy is daft though.

However, I still don't think he'll be here.

If James plays the whole system falls apart.

You don't hoof a ball up to Jamie Vardy to chest down all game same way you dont play fast paced counter attacking football with Andy Carroll up top.

Our system is built for pace, hard work, grit, 11 men doing their defensive work when required.

James offers nothing of the above hence why he's been told to bugger off.

He's been told to bugger off because we're skint bud

Which is fine, he doesn't fit the system and we can't afford him

But if he's still here come the close of the deadline, then we should absolutely 100% use him because he's an excellent player and we'll actually have multiple ways of playing and, oh, a squad, not just 11 players and then it all goes to pot as soon as one gets injured.

Him, Gomes and Siggurdsson shouldn't be near the starting 11 mate.

how anyone can have watched last season of us getting over powered, out ran and out worked by 19 other sides and still want these types of slow, weak, Immobile players in the midfield I'll never know.

I couldn't care how good on the ball he is the lad isn't a team player, doesn't work his socks off and is a liability due to his lack of physicality/pace.

If he doesn't get a move tomorrow he'll be an unwelcome sideshow all season that could threaten the squads current togetherness.
