He has made nearly 500 signings, you want to focus on 24 of them.

My point still stands..... he has made a lot of good signings and, the more I look at the list. the more impressive it gets.

I tell you what, you look at the crap ones to fit your agenda, I will look at the rest.
I'm not picking those 24 arbitrarily, though, am I? They were the last 24 transfers that he completed in the PL. His most recent transfers. Not only that but transfers made at a club in a similar position to us (mid-table PL club not in Europe). We won't be shopping in the same supermarket as Real Madrid and the RS or even the same one as Napoli or Inter.

You accuse me of having an agenda and so I have explained why I think the Newcastle transfers are important. If you have no agenda can you please explain why transfers for CL clubs, some made over a decade ago, are more pertinent, please?

I've seen a mess of a squad up close. there is no comparison between what we've done in the last five years, and Benitez leaving a team with two CL finals a second place finish and an FA cup win. He bought Torres, the outstanding striker in the world at that time. Mascherano and Alonso, Sterling Bellamy the list goes on and on. It's a brilliant record. And now he works out of Finch Farm.
Hurrah
You really love that Liverpool team, it's weird.

The difference is Newcastle have been a yoyo club under a tight eccentric owner. There was very limited appeal for a player to go there other than to simply play in the Premier League.

So it's an unfair comparison, just as it would be to list his Real Madrid/Chelsea signings really as they aren't comparable to us.

This is his first 'mid-table but with aspirations' job really.

He's signed one former Newcastle player already and is linked with a load more (Perez, Rondon etc..), Gray was also heavily linked with Newcastle during Benitez's tenure. Sure looks like a similar shopping list to me.

I think you overestimate the lure of Everton football club.

Problem is we’re not gonna be able to shift Kenny. We probably value him at like 8-12m and I can’t see a club paying more than about 3m

The logical thing would be to sell Kenny, sign a quality RB, bench Coleman, sign someone like that Djed Spence, loan him back out, next season have a quality RB and a Djed Spence-like reserve.
With the people we have at the club then giving Coleman a deal makes perfect sense.
They thought they could replace him with Sidibe, tried Kenny again and then gave Godfrey and Holgate a go. None of them are the answer so it was a good job Seamus was there as backup.

Just no planning anywhere on the pitch, same with Nkounkou, played him in cup matches then bombed him out when Digne was injured.
I actually think Benitez will be better with the overall structure of the squad.

my problem with Benitez, is has he still got the appeal he had ten years ago, to attract the players we need that can make us progress ? Personally I think not, looks a decent coach like, but will that be enough. If love to be proven wrong.

He’s a decent player and English. that’s 10m straight away.
If we’d have got Gray from an English club he would have been an instant £10m.
