Everton Summer transfers 2021

I think he gets a bad reputation for no reason but I see a lot of reasons why we shouldn't do this

Tuchel is doing his best Mourinho impression by pushing young players like Abraham and Pulisic to the fringes and airing dirty laundry in the press. 12 from 18 is an excellent return, and it seems like sidelining such a player is shooting yourself in the foot.

If we can afford it at the right price and still budget in fixing the right side and a midfield upgrade, then sure. Obviously, the plan would be to rotate by starting two up top and subbing on the third when they're all healthy, while still being good to go when you're down one.

Someone that can play centrally or out right like Richarlison does on the left would be more tactically flexible, but may not be as affordable as Abraham.

Thanks for directly addressing my question, by the way.

I agree with you here. If we get our transfer fee back plus whatever PSG have paid for the loan ( a few million I would think) then we have made a tidy profit.

He can’t be worth £40m + whilst simultaneously not be good enough to play for Everton. His value is probably somewhere near what we paid for him.
If he continues scoring for PSG they will pay the 40m
They know it’s only a matter of time until MBappe leaves

I agree and Tuchel has done the minimum considering their opponents. If we stick with 4-3-1-2, and I hope we do, we do need another striker even with Kean.

Well again, it’s not that I’m sat here saying ‘holgate must go’ or anything. If the club feel he’s a key member of the squad, or don’t believe they need to raise money through sales, then great, keep him.

For me he is theoretically expendable. If we signed aarons as an example, then he would replace him as home grown so that would be no issue, and as I can’t see Coleman going we’d have 2 actual right backs and Godfrey who can cover if needed. If branthwaite was to move up to the first team squad we’d have 3 senior centre halves and a 4th choice who could come in and do a job if needed, and would have raised decent funds to strengthen elsewhere. I know people like to say ‘he can play 38 different positions’ but realistically he’s only going to get used in those 2. Ancelotti has shown no desire whatsoever to use him in midfield or left back, so I really don’t see his supposed versatility in those roles as an important factor.

Personally I believe turning over decent players to raise money has been a weakness of ours in recent years- we tend to either sell our best assets or players who we just don’t want at all. In an ideal world, moving on decent squad players to raise money for better quality is the way to do it.

I think we're starting from different premises. You're banking on Branthwaite moving up, Mina resigning and a big homegrown RB buy. I tend to think that Mina will move on, Branthwaite will be out on loan next season and that we will buy a foreign RB to chase attacking quality at the price point. I think I'm also trying to plan a little harder around managing Europe + injuries, given our treatment table history.

Thanks for directly addressing my question, by the way. Accidentally edited the wrong post above, and then couldn't remove the change.

Yeah. Either that or I’m just saying ‘I wouldn’t be surprised if this happens’ and you have a major emotional investment in it and don’t want to listen to anything other than your own opinion. One or the other for sure.

Gibson will definitely be leaving the club. Branthwaite will probably be out on loan again.

Godfrey covers left back, Holgate covers right back even if we do sign a new RB. Plus hopefully we will be in Europe next season and will need a sqaud.

We will not be selling Michael Keane nor will we be spending big money on another centre half.

We will almost certainly sell Moise Kean to raise funds.

This is a good post. We are not selling Keane or Mina. If anyone goes my guess is its Holgate, but only if Branthwaite is ready to be a first team player. which is probably another year away. Coleman is the most likely odd man out.

The rest of you nerds trying to breakup our best defense in ages need to realize that our manager is Carlo Ancelotti. He doesn't give a fork about your spreadsheets and formulas.

Defensive depth next year:

RB: Holgate, new attacking RB (Aarons)
CB: Keane, Mina, Godfrey, Holgate
LB: Digne, Godfrey

The last thing we need to be spending money on is a CB this summer.

6 defenders is not nearly enough depth

Apart from signing a new RB I’d leave our defence as is
We have cover and play either the wall of 4 CB’s or 2 attacking FB’s and 2 CB’s
If we get Europe we need them all except maybe GIBSON
If Branthwaite goes on loan I’d put a Jan recall option in
I’d also keep Coleman

No, I genuinely wanted to hear what you had to say. I understand your argument now, and I understand why we're reaching different conclusions.

If it plays out the way you suggest, selling Holgate is not unreasonable.

Got bored in the middle of a 5 hour MS Teams meeting so chalked up some stats of the keepers I linked yesterday. Can't find save % without paying money for it and some of the leagues (most) are crap. Pickford doesn't actually fair so badly really but out clean sheets as a team sucks.

Sorry that’s my fault. When you said I was banking on something happening I thought you meant it’s what I wanted to happen, which made me think you were just ignoring what I’d said. Obviously just a misunderstanding so sorry about that!

They also know we are looking to sell. Juve may want him but can’t pay 30m. If PSG are the only realistic buyer, why would they over pay?

Raiola will play a part in this transfer and the club may need him onside for our other transfer business.
