Possible Defensive Midfielders...

Good post Benj but unfortunately Diarra has had a history of mouthing off when things aren't going his way. We need performance on the pitch but when times are tough like last night we need leaders not moaners. Not Davey's cup of tea or mine for that matter.

Was watchin the game with my mate last night and he said we should go for savage, needless to say i kicked some sense into him :)

And on the fernandes theme aparently he is defo signing whenever he is able to leave spain. its all over the internet in the spanish speaking world and i've heard a few things from my old mans valenciano contacts

Do you have any sources from Spanish media? Because nsno.co.uk are spouting this, but not backing it up from any sources. Is that where you got it from?

Id say Huddlestone is more an atacking midfeilder. You all know my feelings on Joey Barton.

A thought struck me last night that we could do worse then play Lescott in the midfeild anchor role, he certainly has the defensive attributes, and can play good creative football too. For me he's a born sweeper and whats the defnsive midfeild position only a sweeper reversed! I rember Pual McGrath used to play for Ireland in that role in midfeild and was outstanding, Lescott reminds me so much of him its unreal, like Mick said in a diffeent thread hes world class, i agree!

My old man knows a guy who owns a bar in Gandia, hes a share holder at Valencia. Its not a 100% gospel, but it is 100% certain hes leaving ....... think its just probably down to whether everton will take him or not ;)

appiah isn't a holding midfielder as much as a box to box midfielder.

If we are ever to play 4-4-2 effectively, we need someone like him who can do both. Bit of a waste to have in the holding midfield.

really, we need both fernandes and appiah and pienaar.

then we could fight for a CL spot.

---------Howard------------
Neville--Yobo--Jags--Lescott
----------Fernandes----------
Arteta--Appiah--Cahill--Pienaar
-------------Yakubu-----------

as a 4-5-1 that would kick some ass.

If i had one, i would put my house on us only makin one signin. But i agree my good man that team is mighty impressive (baines at left back tho and lescott centre half)

Agreed I have been a huge fan of Stephen Appiah. Trouble is its getting a bit scary overloading the team with African players like Pompey.

The old David Albelda loan story is becoming more likely (not necessarily to us, but he has been mentioned as a target in the past) as he is negotiating with Atletico to sign for next season (as he can't play for them this season). So he needs matches at a good level before the Euros and a loan would be perfect.

Says dodgy Swiss Goal site...
