We do need another centre back...if we want to play high or a 3 man defence

Like it or not, only Godfrey and holgate have the pace to play a high line and also seem to be able to play in a 3 CB system, possibly Mina and Branthwaite as well as they bring the ball out of defence.

Mancini is a really good centre back with power, pace, snide/aggression and can come out with the ball in 4 or 3 man defence.

Mancini counts Marco Materazzi as one of his footballing idols, and the reason he has preferred to wear the No. 23 during his career (doing so at both Perugia and Atalanta). He also has the number tattooed on his body.

Mancini on Materazzi...hes also got his same shirt number which he also has a tattoo of

“I always admired Marco’s character and fighting spirit,” Mancini has said. “He was one of those players who always looked you square in the eye even when things were going badly. He inspired his teammates, you could always tell that.”
Coleman retiring ,
Welcome to Everton Mr Mancini

Do we have 5 people who can and have played Right Back in the Premier League? Yes
Do we have a competent Right Back? Nope
Ok for me this is poor recruitment, I've been banging on about Coleman being finished basically since he came back from injury which, as harsh as it would have been at the time, is when we should have started finding a RB. We gave Kenny enough time to know that unless he really tore it up at Schalke he wasn't it. Relying on Holgate and Godfrey at fullback is poor.

We still technically had 4 Right Backs on our books.

I know, you would have just bought another 1, The American Steve Walsh there.

They weren't unless all you're concerned with is goals and assists and even then he had pretty decent figures considering the team he played in.

Did he?? I'm going by memory here.. but 1 goal in 36.. his stats were very Bernard.. Look I don't remember him... but on paper there isnt anything remarkable there. Very unfair of course.. just helicopter view.

I was told 2 years ago that DCL would never score more than 10 goals, that Tom Davies was a Championship player and Ross Barkley would set the league on fire for Chelsea.

Hindsight is great isn't it.

And yes, Coleman is probably done, Kenny isn't good enough, Holgate does not make a very good Right Back and Godfrey doesn't really have the attacking talent to make it work.

We probably suspected that 8months ago, but now we know it.

Honestly I expected Kenny to take the spot and make it his own. Took one game to see that was never going to happen. I expected him to take it 2 seasons ago and was getting frustrated about it.. I was wrong then.. but the club surely should have seen this coming!

He had 7 assists for a team that scored 25 goals. For reference the only player we've had hit 7 leagues assists since Ross did it in 16/17 is Digne. No wingers or midfielders.
