Hysaj? RB on a free. Play at Napoli, Carlo must know him well enough.

There will be pressure on if we qualify for Europe, but thats good pressure.

If it was the Euro Conference League we're in, I think Carlo might approach the early stages of that as a glorified U-23 tournament, but if its the Europa League we'll need more numbers plainly.

Like every summer window, its a delicate balancing act. You have a budget of x + sales and we'll most likely end the window still short in some areas.

Last summers window was almost textbook perfect in the use of resources vs. players signed.

We'll need to repeat that. We'll have more legroom but the squad will need more quality as well as a bit more padding.

It's all work in progress. It will be window 3 of Carlo's reign and I still think he needs 6 windows to achieve the sort of overhaul that was required from day one.

There might also be the prospect of unwanted / unexpected bids and sales, which changes the dynamic of the squad and would have to be handled very carefully also.

Hopefully we are in Europe and that sets the tone for the window in the summer. We need momentum on and off the pitch.

I think a lot of this depends on a) where we finish and b) how well 4-5 players acquit them over the course of the rest of the season.

*If* Olsen continues his vein of form, claims the #1 GK spot, and remains a calming figure at the heart of the defence, and if it comes down to trade-offs within certain positions, it may be wiser to invest heavily in a top wing-back and winger who'll transform the right-hand side for us.

Right-back and right-wing are two of the glaring necessities at this point, preferably young talents (20-24) with a high ceiling à la Godfrey, who will come in for a decent fee but manageable wages.

*If* we can ease Gbamin back into the team by the season's end, then we're fairly well placed for backup in defensive midfield; *if* Gomes can successfully shake off his post-injury rustiness and hit a rich vein of form then we could be fairly well-stocked.

*If* King does prove to be a versatile option for the three forward positions, then maybe only one top wide forward option may be needed (which will no doubt require considerable outlay).

Equally, *If* Kean suddenly decides he's willing to come back and stake his claim at Goodison in the summer, then perhaps between DCL, Richy, himself and King we may have sufficient cover at CF.

And then *if* a couple of young players can step up and prove their value as squad members (Gordon, Onyango, Branthwaite etc.) then it allows us to move on Bernard, Sigurdsson, Delph etc. and replace them with younger players with considerably lower outlay on wages.

So. in conclusion, RB and RW are absolute essentials this summer and then depending on the performances and personal circumstances of the aforementioned players, we should perhaps look for additions at GK, CM, CF as well.

Deadwoods like Walcott, Bolasie, Besic, Connolly, Adeniran, Pennington, Bowler, Boardhead’ contracts finally expired. Wages off the bill.

Kean will be sold for a big transfer fee. Kenny, Delph, Tosun, Bernard are in the final year of their contracts and I expect they will be sold and we get some sort of fees.

Young players like Baningime, Gibson, Markelo also in the last year of their contracts and probably be move on whether on permanent or loan deals.

I expect Sigurdsson and Coleman will stay on as squad players till their contracts expire.

Heres 4 i like that we may be able to deals for...

Boubacar Kamara (Marseille) 21 years old and can play DM / CM / LB / CB positions. Contract expires in 2022 and Marseille seem to be in serious trouble so could get him for a low fee.

Eduardo Camavinga (Rennes) 18 years old defensive midfielder. Potential world class ability and perhaps a unique chance for us to bring in a player like him. Offering first team football while some of the other clubs linked are in financial distress. Contract expires in 2022 so we may be able to do a deal.

Bruno Guimaraes (Lyon) 23 years old who can play as both a defensive and central midfielder. Someone I think can be top class and an instant fan favourite.

Emerson (Barca) 22 year old right back. Very strong attacking player and returning to Barca after his spell at Betis ends. Barca are in serious financial difficulty and so he could be somewhat a bargain signing.

Id say though, I really like Godfrey and DCL in the spine of the team. If we could add in a super centre or defensive midfielder then i think it makes a lot of sense.

Probably unpopular opinion and I like him but I think we should be looking "bigger" than Olsen. I'm not saying spend 50m+, Roma supporters were ecstatic to see him go. Maybe because he's not playing every day we're not seeing the bad part that often.
