ECHO Comment: "Fears of Witch-hunt Against Liverpool FC" part 3

It was exactly how you called it. Klopp has admitted Matip played when injured and with fitness issues for the good of the team. He said wirh the injuries they had he had to put him in the side asap.

His body has proved time and time again that it can't cope with the rigours of the Premier League but it didn't stop them trying to completely break him.

You really would struggle to find anyone who wouldn't have seen this coming.

You could tell he has been doing that, not just with Matip but loads of the players, and likely did so at Dortmund too. The difference is, Matip can't take it.

Any time a player is injured and they come back, there's never any easing them in, they are just thrust straight back in. Eventually it catches up with people. If the body is protecting say his thigh, it puts more strain on other aspects of the body, which them break down.

Same with Fabinho, who probably needs 3-4 weeks to get over this injury, then probably 2-3 to get back to full fitness. What odds he's just thrust straight back in against City?

What you see with most footballers, once they start getting injuries it tends to continue. It's the same as anyone else really, you've probably noticed, once you get say a knee problem, or achilles or whatever, it rarely properly recovers. The level of intensity he demands, in training and matches contributes negatively.

On a slight aside, you see the same with Harry Kane. Each time he does his ankle/knee/hamstring etc the body just gets weaker.

I'd be very surprised, in honesty, if any of Gomes/Matip or VVD came back to full fitness and returned to the level they were at before. Whats more likely is they go the posh boy Chamberlain route, and the body starts to hamper them.

They’re probably trying to say that he’s been carrying that injury after being hacked down in the Derby.

I mean, if hes been hacked down in the derby (which I don't remember, I do remember VVD and Robertson hacking 2 of our lads down though) then to have continued playing him for this long is gross negligence. Again they only have themselves to blame if their little fairytale was true.

Agreed. Your thoughts @GP_Monty ?

Surely everyone agrees, that sending death threats to people ought to be treated as a very serious offence? Im generally quite a liberal guy, but that sort of stuff is unnacceptable. If I knew anyone who had done that, I would certainly be helping to secure a rightful conviction for them. It's just being a decent citizen/person isn't it?

I still just can’t get my head around Southampton’s manager who I think is quite good looking at Minamino and thinking he is a viable option for a PL team

Might be adding two plus two and getting five; but you would imagine given they were both at RB franchises at the same time for 3 years, Hassenhuttl (who seems excellent) probably has a much better handle on him than what he has shown at liverpool. You would also imagine an Austrian manager would have a fair idea of the Austrian League.

The reports last night suggested Southampton wanted an option /obligation to buy, but Liverpool refused this.

I don't think it's that surprising. People are after depth. I remember them at the time going on about how amazing he was going to be (another one) and he has been pretty woeful. What is it, 1 goal in 13 months?

It's just depth though, Walcott is injured so he can cover Walcott.

Surprised Liverpool didn't accept the above. Unless he does well at Southampton and scored 5+ goals his value is only going 1 way.

Sorry if I wasnt clear, I agree - I don't think there is any surprise in it at all, there must be a decent player there somewhere; he was excellent for a sustained period for Salzburg.

What I dont get with Klopp's treaetment of him, I think he has had one start in PL this season, scored after two mins, was excellent and hasnt been seen since.

Was he "excellent" though?

I mean I've had a look at his numbers, in what is a very poor league (relatively speaking) and in the best team he was averaging 7 goals a season as a forward. It doesn't smack me as a player who is levels above that league. He was also at a rate worse than 1 in 3. Haaland by comparison- much younger- scored at a better than a goal a game and had 16 in his first season as a teenager. That to me is "excellent".

He had a decent record in Austria but I sense that was his level. The Austrian league is probably about the championship standard and I sense thats his level. At 25, you do look at players and think, in honesty how much better are they going to get?

I woudn't even criticise Klopp for this either. He's played 9 games this season and scored 1 goal, and that came in a game where they scored 7. In tight games he's just too small and slow to have an influence.

I suspect their issue with him, is on top of the 10m or so they wasted on him, there will be probably double that (conservatively speaking) in terms of agents and sign on fees. There will also be significant loyalty payments if they want him to go out. So an offer of say 10m quid sounds fine, until a portion of that ends up going to the player.

I can't make sense of it. I would have taken what I could have got this window.
