Current Affairs Coronavirus Thread - Serious stuff !!!

Not left the house for two weeks aside from going to the supermarket once five days ago, partner finished work on Thursday. She gets at home Covid testing kits now being a nurse and I’ve ordered a test for myself to be safe. We had been planning to leaving North London on the 24th assuming negative tests, after staying at home for a week, to visit her parents for Christmas who also don’t go anywhere and have been getting their food shop delivered. Visiting nobody else, not even my parents who live nearby as my dad is vulnerable.

Now we can’t.

Meanwhile people in other areas will be meeting in their social bubbles of three households at Christmas with impunity. Still going to the shops in the meantime, and even going to work five days a week if “necessary”.

If I wanted to commute an hour each way to my office next week every day I could do. But I can’t travel to see family for Christmas having isolated for a week and having taken a covid test.

Frustrating :)

Did you watch the presser?

It was blindingly obvious if you did. They have basically been scratching their heads why the data in the SE is what it is. Then worked out that some stuff has changed in the bug, which confirms why the data is what it is.

The bits that have changed relate to how quickly it infects/spreads, hence the belief, (for now), that the strength of the bug is not more dangerous, just quicker.

The Walcott Strain if you like.

The Walcott strain lol

I just can't see where this 70% figure has came from and how in any way they can be sure its remotely accurate? They only supposedly identified the strain the other day.
I don't know either but I don't see that as good enough reason to assume they're lying. They are pretty drastic steps they've brought in, in London of all places and they must be aware they're pissing off 90% of the population.

They are scared, and that worries me.

Its free for the over 60s and for people who don't work.

Everybody else has to pay, 14.99.

The wife and I have been trying for the last month to get 1, but its hard to fit it in around her work.
Don't worry I'm front line social care and health care for 24 years, it's strongly recommend I have flu vaccination by various communications by various employers NHS and Local Authority, there is always some shambles as to why they run out.
