We currently have a good starting ten outfield players mate and any injuries / suspensions to any of those players throws the dynamics of the whole team out - as we saw today.

We`ve got four promising youngsters in, Branthwaite, Gibson, Godffrey and Nkounkou for the future.

We still have players in the squad who aren`t good enough and some of these players will unfortunately have to to play ( as we`ve seen today ) when the first choice players aren`t available.

This is why teams like City and the RS win things, as they have real squad depth, which we simply don`t have ( yet )

We are and still remain a work in progress.

Do you not think if we can see this, that one of the best managers in club football can`t ?
Surprising that a team that were largely garbage last year, without our main creative players, were poor today.

It's almost as though most of the players aren't that good, and it takes more than 1 transfer window to undo a few years of mismanagement.

Back to the good old days, we haven’t got a squad good enough to compete at the top. Our first eleven is good enough but behind that it is full of over paid dross.

Plenty of possession but no penetration and no urgency until the last few minutes. Predictably, there were too many players taking the safe option. That said, I've seen the RS play like that and regularly scrape wins because they have two or three goalscorers, as opposed to us with just one who was surrounded by 3 centre-halves with, for the most part, zero support.

Its a fair argument to ask why Brands was happy to rely on Tosun as forward back up. Good sides have options. Average sides like us have Iwobi and Bernard to come on.

He gets it wrong every summer.

Some of our fans really are deluded

A home match against a team we have a good recent record against

A match where 2 maybe 3 of our best players so far this season will return

A match against an opponent who have an away European game in midweek with an early Saturday kick off

Yeah we have no chance fella

They decided against going for a forward, even with Kean and Walcott going.

I had no massive issue with Kean or Walcott leaving but even with them here we needed a really, really good option to come in and allow us to a) have a brilliant back-up and b) change shape/system when needed

With Kean or Walcott going we, at the very least, needed a player who could play in the front three positions competently.

We got nothing and the club actively told sources in the media (namely the Athletic lads) that they took the decision to go with Tosun as back up forward.

Within two games (suspension for Rich, injury for James) that has cost us massively.

Disagree mate. The fact is we didnt shift out enough players by a long shot...we had to move on 10 players really and bring in 3 more.

At the moment were stuck in limbo waiting for players to leave.

This coming summer theres 6 or 7 off but 2022 almost all of our deadwood will be out of contract.

Getting in players such as James and Allan keeps us ticking over until 2022 and we gradually add more in like Doucoure and Godfrey for the mid-long term.

Kean going to PSG is a masterstroke. Hes a poacher and was played by us on the right (where admittedly ive seen him do well in italy) and as a target man.

He'll either come back a different player next summer or we'll make a decent profit to then be able to put towards more players.

We csnt keep signing players without clearing out the squad...we should have let bernard go...free transfer and £6mil profit on the books would have been ideal.

Gordons not getting a game and yet hes been our 3rd best wide player behind Richarlison and James.

I think we need Holgate and Godfrey to be in the mix at CB as well...

Everton blew up what was looking to be a very nice earner on my multi ...Everton that.
Seriously though, I am unsurprised at the result. Without Richarlison, we are a bit toothless and our mental softness remains an issue. But hey ho...onwards and a bit downwards I guess...

No it wouldn't, it would have been seen as a sensible move to strengthen a position we are clearly weak in.

We have nobody who is a natural right-sided winger in the squad, for example.

We should have moved for someone before October 5. It should have been Zaha, or if not, a player of that level of talent/potential. It was worth the financial risk.

Really wasn’t worth the risk to pay what Palace would have wanted. That’s what it boils down too, the wage bill is still too huge to accommodate another £100-150k a week player who has days where he can go missing

Even with King, Bournemouth were pricing him out late into the window that no one ended up buying him

Gonna take 2-3 transfer windows with Ancelotti to get this right. This summer seemed to be about getting his priorities in place. Our strongest 11 can match any team but as we’ve seen the last 2 matches we are so short on quality from the bench.

Hi lads... a geordie here. I had a little peek at this forum after the match to see your reaction after this game.

In my opinion you didnt want to win this game, until you went 2 nil down. Played the ball across your back 4 most of the first half with hardly any attacking intent. Obviously you didnt have some of your best players but I was bemused by the squad selection, with so many cm's.

Newcastle arent in a great way and are lacking in a few areas as well as bruceys tactics at times, but to come on here and listen to some of your comments.. you'd think yous had won the league for the last 10 years in a row".

I thought wow you have such high expectations, perhaps its because you have been so good this year? So i had a look...

1-0 win at spurs.. played well, deserved the win

5-2 win at west brom - went a goal down twice in first half, then west brom went to 10 men on 45mins.

2-1 win at Palace, winning goal with a penalty :)

4-2 win at brighton

2-2 draw with Liverpool. VAR! Say no more!

2-0 loss to southampton

2-1 loss to newcastle

So my point is, really good results vs spurs and brighton, but other than that.. hardly liverpool of last season!

I think you need to settle down as today was as comfortable a game as we have had in a long time.. we also missed 2 chances which would have been scored any other day!

Good luck for the season! I genuinely hope you do something in the league to break up the big six.. just a few sour fans on here are laughable! P.s. some of your fans want ancelotti to walk!!! If hes not there neither will james, allan etc!

Our aim this season is to crack the CL and hopefully silverware so we’re on track and are exactly where we want to be.

Yes the last two games are disappointing but that’s going to happen with the squad we have and the injuries/suspensions we’ve got to key players.
