More injury news
Bruce on the Longstaff brothers: “Matty has played a game and a half for the U23s and looks like he's over his injury. Sean has recovered from a bout of tonsilitis
Shelvey operation success
Shelvey operation went well.
Thankfully, it was all pretty routine... everything went OK. He’s on the mend. These days, with the way hernias are, we’re thinking it could be three or four weeks – certainly after the international break – when he’s there or thereabouts.
Bruce impressed by Murphy
The big thing for him is to mount a challenge to get in the team. In time, if he cements that place and does well, then that (a new deal) is the next step. We paid a lot of money for him a few years ago. It might have been a bit too early for him
Longstaff Brothers can bring something different
They bring an energy to the team and they're both very decent passers of the ball too. They've had a few problems but we hope they can stay fit because they've both got something to offer
Bruce defends Wolves system
Steve Bruce on the defensive shape v Wolves.
I think it's important that you've got the ability to change. We had to be better defensively. We'd been too open and had too many chances created against us. The key to it is getting the balance right and still being a threat the other way
Isaac Hayden returns
He's fine. He's trained all week but didn't think I could gamble with him last week.
Steve Bruce reveals respect for Everton boss
Steve Bruce on Carlo Ancelotti: "The way he manages, the success he's had, I'm a huge admirer. He's got a quiet calmness about him which just shows you there's different ways to manage. I read his book, which is a good read as well
More From Steve Bruce
We aren't going to score two or three goals every week," Steve Bruce said. "We would love to. Don't get me wrong, we would love to be the Entertainers again but it's just not possible so we have to get that balance right.
