Former Everton Centre Forward Duncan Ferguson steps into management.....

Can Fylde make history?

Duncan Ferguson is on the verge of making history with AFC Fylde and it's a subject he has played down all season, until now. He is well aware of what is at stake and the competitor in him will want nothing less than promotion this season. When he has been questioned in press conferences he has diverted his answers to discuss the club's League Two safety foremost. There are nine matches left to play and anything can still happen. Teams have so often fell apart at this stage of the season and blown every opportunity of a promotion. It can happen to Rochdale, it can happen to Fylde. We have seen Fylde on so many occasions lose play-off battles and promotion chances over the years in the National League. Ferguson has protected his squad and not so long ago it looked like they were on the verge of a slump but it was short-lived and they were back to winning ways. There is a good feeling around the club and this could be one of the best seasons in Fylde's 40 year history.

My song for Josh Ferguson, based on Meat Loafs Anything for love (but I won't do that)

As you can see it just rolls off the tongue.

And I would do anything for Josh
I'd run right into Crewe and back
I would do anything for Josh
I'd kidnap you and that's a fact
And I'll never forget the way you crossed that ball
Oh no, no way
And I would do anything for Josh
Oh I would do anything for Josh
I would do anything for Josh, but I won't do that
No, I won't do that

Some days I like eggs easy
Some days I like eggs hard
Some days I like beans on toast and these are the days that never end
Some nights you're breathing fire
From too many Rum & Cokes
Some nights I'm like nothing I've ever seen before or will again
Maybe I'm crazy, but it's crazy and it's true
I know Fylde can save me, no-one else can save me now but you
As long as Henderson is turning
As long as Yeovil is burning
As long as our dreams are coming true
You'd better believe it, that I would do
Anything for Josh
Oh I would do anything for Josh
Oh I would do anything for Josh, but I won't do that
No, I won't do that
I would do anything for Josh
And his older brother Tosh, but I just won't do that
I would do anything for Josh
Anything you've been dreaming of, but I just won't do
Some days I pray for Salford
Some days I pray for my Dole
Some days I just pray to the god for lots more sex and rock 'n' roll
Maybe I'm lonely, that's all I'm qualified to be
That's just one and only, the one and only promise I can keep

Yes I would do anything for Josh
He's whipping balls into attack
Yes I would do anything for Josh
Hendo says he's got his back
But I'll never love you the way I love Danny Rowe oh no, no way
Yes I would do anything for Josh
I would do anything for Josh
I would do anything for Josh
But I won't do that
If only I knew how to post a gif of people how to give a standing ovation...

Peterborough United vs AFC Fylde

Fylde were hoping to continue their recent run of good form until the end of the season starting with a tough away game with struggling Peterborough. Bryan Johnson was on the bench after recovering from his hamstring injury and Callum Simpson continued on the right wing after his good performance against Barnet. Simpson made the first mistake of the game not even after one minute which seen Danny Young take the ball from him and a long ball forward found Hewitt who buried it past Foster. The next ten minutes was Fylde getting shots away but failing to hit the target. George Moncur doubled the lead when his free-kick was blocked by the wall and he scored with his second attempt after Foster had already commited himself. Fylde needed to grab one back before half-time but it just didn't seem to be going their way. Josh Ferguson intercepted the throw-in and broke free into space but his shot was palmed away. Okoroji crossed from the left on 42 minutes to Simpson who headed towards goal, O'Neill flicked it on to the underside of the bar! Hit the rebound into the back of the net! Fylde pulled one back at a critical time. Fylde were getting the ball out wide well and packing the box but the keeper was in great form. Bryan Johnson was on the pitch and he was found in space on the right, he crossed to the far post and the leaping header of Euan Henderson left the keeper with no chance! All level with ten minutes to play! Peterborough made all three subs with ten minutes to go to try to hold what they had, Ferguson tested the keeper who turned it round the post with 7 minutes to play. Wisdom took the resulting corner, Henderson missed it, O'Neill was at the back post to slot it in! Fylde go 3-2 up! What a turnaround! It was short-lived when Sherif curled one into the rop corner a minuter later to level! Fylde completely asleep conceding a ridiculous goal. The referee allowed four minutes of stoppage time before bringing the match to an end.

DF: We showed great character to come back like we did, we conceded two early goals but we fought and scored three. We failed to defend at that point and Peterborough grabbed the equaliser. I felt we dominated the match and were the better team but it was a hard fought point for Peterborough who can walk away pleased.

AFC Fylde vs Walsall

With Mel Pope on England U20 duty, Ryan East was called onto the bench with Wisdom and McGavin starting in midfield. Johnson started the match and it was certainly a game Fylde needed to take all three points. Both Rochdale and Exeter took early leads and Fylde followed suit when Wisdom crossed towards the back post from the free-kick and Feeney nodded home! Feeney and Smith done well to win the ball back inside their box and Okoroji found Henderson who dribbled past four Walsall players and sprayed it into the box for Johnson who went for the shot but was tripped, penalty! Henderson kept his nerve and buried it low into the bottom corner! Fylde went for the third, Henderson played it to McGavin who got it out wide to Okoroji who crossed first time to O'Neill and he headed it wide! Fylde conceded easily on 53 minutes when Lindsey found the top corner with a curling effort. Fylde need to restore that two goal cushion. Wisdom's free kick hit the top of the wall and Feeney tried the volley but he skied it, what a chance! Fylde just had to see the game out as the clock ticked down. Walsall went with three up front and Fylde brought on MacDonald to support the midfield. Ferguson stood on the line with his arms aloft as the match ran past the added four minutes. The whistle blew and it was a win for Fylde!

Port Vale vs AFC Fylde

Every match was a must-win fixture for Fylde and third placed Exeter took on fourth placed Crewe which could see breathing space for Fylde if Exeter were to pick up a win. Fylde had a tough job to do first in Staffordshire. Euan Henderson was clutching at his hamstring after a few minutes but looked okay to continue. He would be a big loss for Fylde going into the final six games. There were early chances for Fylde, Wisdom came close with the free-kick and Okoroji's followed up shot was blocked just after 21 minutes. Morton crossed to the far post for the run of Henderson on 39 minutes and he headed wide, good defending to keep him out. The same happened again when Morton found Henderson and he headed over the bar, the goal was gaping for him. Great delivery from Morton and Fylde looking dangerous down the right hand side. Josh Ferguson was booked on 53 minutes and then again on 56 minutes for a rash challenge and was off the pitch. Fylde reduced to ten men with the game hanging in the balance. Port Vale's Ron Biggs managed to cross for Mendes Gomes who looped a header past Foster and it was the home side in front. Callum Simpson replaced Euan Henderson who was't at his best. Callum SImspon made his first contribution with sixteen minutes left when his wonderful long ball found O'Neill who brought it down nicely and walloped it into the top corner from inside the box! Barry Sargent was stripped and ready to come on but Ferguson told him to sit back down. Port Vale won the corner after a great save from Foster, Walters crossed for Cooper who had been dominant in the air all day scored past Foster and it was Port Vale back in front. Ferguson finally sent on Sargent in the last five minutes for McGavin and went with two up top. Fylde got the ball into the wide areas and into the box but Port Vale were on hand to deal with it. It was a victory for the team in mid-table and a defeat for The Coasters. It was defeat for Exeter and now Crewe have closed the gap on Fylde to three points. It is a becoming a very nervy end to the season.
