Wycombe Wanderers vs AFC Fylde
29th January 2028

=wycombe result.webp

Wycombe were on a good run of form albeit still remaining in 20th place in the table but recent form suggests they are showing resilence and climbing away from the danger zone. Fylde have been the surprise package of the season so far, tipped by many to struggle they have led the table for most of the season but currently sit in 2nd a point behind a top Rochdale side. News spread fast around Wycombe as Rochdale found themselves down 2-0 to Stevenage and the away fans found their voice. There was little action throughout the first half as both teams trudged in at 0-0. Wycombe came the closest to break the deadlock just after the restart when O'Nien's header from the corner was just inches wide of the post. A minute later Henderson fed the ball to Ferguson who hit it with his right foot against the post. The second half already getting off to a good start. Johnson got down the byline after receiving the throw in and crossed first time for Barry Sargent who headed against the crossbar. Sargent was replaced by O'Neill with twenty minutes to play and the striker won a penalty after he was shoved to the ground trying to win Henderson's cross. Henderson made no mistake burying the spot kick into the bottom left corner! There was drama at the other end with 12 minutes to go when Feeney jumped unfairly with Freeman and conceded a penalty to Wycombe. Egan lined it up and sent Foster the wrong way to equalise! Nobody could grab the winner and a it was a point apiece in what proved to be a tough encounter for Fylde.

DF: We wasn't at our best, the tempo was too slow, the wingers were not getting wide enough and a lot of players could have done better. We played well defensively but we offered very little in attack.

Oxford got off to a good start when Al-Hamadi scored from Pickering's cross on 13 minutes. Foster came for the ball and was beaten by the header. The lead didn't last long when Henderson picked up the ball from Ferguson, strided forward and unleashed a pearler with his right foot that nestled into the bottom corner. Oxford's delivery from corners was sublime and they got their second with a header from Connolly on 30 minutes. Morton took the throw on 35 minutes to Johnson who turned quickly and found Henderson at the back post to head in the equaliser! As half-time approached, Oxford were really attacking Fylde and keeping them penned in, Price found Connolly at the back post who smashed the ball home to make it three, what a first half of football! Brad Price found Al-Hamadi outside the box who hit a low driven shot in the rain into the bottom corner to make it 4-2. It was a day of goals and Fylde broke into the area with Ferguson out wide who crossed low into the six yard box for Barry Sargent to blast home his first goal for Fylde! Fylde were all over Oxford and they couldn't get out their own half, Tyler Garrett played the ball down the left flank for Henderson who cut inside on his right and found space to get his hattrick and the equaliser! Is there to be a winner in this one? Ten minutes to go and the game is set for anyone to take it. 89 minutes gone and Oxford won the corner, Pickering crossed but the ball was cleared b Feeney, Al-Hamadi hit the volley into the top corner! Oxford could have sealed it! The points were Oxfords and a big win for them as they look to escape the danger zone. A nine goal thriller and disappointment for Fylde.
DF: You'd think when you score four goals away from home you're going to be taking all three points but Oxford fought back and we were poor at defending the crosses. Pickering was lethal from dead ball situations and we failed to deal with his dangerous balls.

AFC Fylde vs Cheltenham Town

=Cheltenham result.webp

It was a bumpy run of form for Fylde and Ferguson stated it had to be ironed out before it became a problem, especially in the final stage of the season. Three minutes into the match, Johnson chased the ball down from the cleared corner and played a one-two with Feeney, Sargent dropped deep to receive the ball and sent in a lobbed cross towards Henderson who brought it down and slotted to make it 1-0! Fylde won the free-kick deep inside the opposition half, Wisdom sent the ball into the box and Feeney met it with the head lobbing it over the committed keeper to make it two! A great start and the start they wanted. Feeney almost went from hero to zero when he got caught in possession and allowed Cheltenham to break but Wisdom came out of nowhere with a great tackle and won the ball back, Johnson got it on the right wing and crossed for Sargent but he headed wide. Mel Pope gave the ball to Henderson who took a look up outside the box and found the bottom corner with his right foot, what a player Henderson has turned out to be getting is 32nd goal in all competitions. The first five minutes into the second half saw Cheltenham attacking the Fylde goal but the defence performed well and kept them out. Fylde exploited the Cheltenham weakness and Wisdom pumped in another set piece into the box and Feeney scored his second with a powering header! Ferguson recognised the hard work from Henderson and thought he deserved a rest subbing him on the hour mark for Callum Simpson. Jasper Dowse pulled one back for Cheltenham belting in Connor's pass to give Cheltenham an outside chance with twenty minutes to play. Fylde took the sting out of the game in the remaining ten minutes and duly fought back at the critics with a good display.

=Stevenage result.webp

Stevenage got off to a good start early on when Swift crossed for Spencer at the byline and his deflected shot found its way past Foster. Stevenage controlled the game well and kept Fylde out of possession early on not allowing them time on the ball. Barry Sargent didn't even make it through the first half when he was hauled off before half-time for Tyrone O'Neill. 15 minutes into the second half and Morton crossed to the near post for the rising header of O'Neill who equalised for The Coasters! Four minutes later Morton shouted for the ball on the right flank, made his way to the byline and crossed for O'Neill who headed in the second! Quick turnaround for Fylde! Stevenage sent on anothet striker with 15 minutes to go and Ferguson brought on MacDonald for Ferguson to sit in the hole in front of the defence. It was a nervous end to the match for Fylde as they gave away needless free-kicks around their penalty area. They dealt with it well and managed to see the game out with another victory. Tyrone O'Neill making the difference.

Fylde started the match positively and kept the ball well in the opposition half, Fylde won a free-kick on the edge of the box on 32 minutes and Mick Wisdom duly delivered sending the ball into the roof of the net with a ferocious strike! Two minutes later Wisdom crossed to the far post from tbe corner and Henderson powered a header past the keeper to make it two! Fylde with two goals in quick succession! Mick Wisdom played brilliantly throughout the first half and almost came close to a second goal with a free-kick that was marginally over the bar. With 30 minutes to play Fylde looked in control, Wisdom played it to his midfield partner McGavin who jinxed past his marker and hit the post with a swerving effort. Fylde coasted to victory away from home and were in complete control throughtout.

DF: We came away to a side that are fighting for play-offs and we played very well. The midfield kept possession well and we limited Lincoln to long range efforts. We are coming into the stage of the season were we need to remain focused and we have a real chance of achieving something special this season. Bryan Johnson has pulled his hamstring and will be out of action for a few weeks. He will definitely miss next weeks match against Rochdale.
