The counterpoint to this is going out in the first two weeks of a 3 month window and paying way over the odds for one player and having less money to spend on other positions.
All clubs work to budget constraints both internal and external and we are certainly no exception.
Ancelotti said it would be evolution not revolution and I think anybody expecting us to roar out of the blocks next season and immediately be muscling in amongst the big six is going to be mightily disappointed.
Whilst it is always preferable to get players in early it is far more important to ensure we get the right players at the right price.
I hope we then allow the manager time to ease the new players in and improve the existing players to build a team capable of challenging at the top.
A trophy would be pleasant this season but an improved team is a far more likely and realistic aim.
Evolution not Revolution as the man said.
But we've proved that waiting gets us absolutely no where. Look how much we paid for Iwobi on deadline day? For me our biggest problem seems to be executing deals. Am also not expecting wholesale changes but I'd like to think as a club we're capable of getting 3 key players in before we kick the season off,if not it's the same old story of get players in late and them only gelling come chrimbo. Ancelotti has said himself he wants deals concluded before we start the season.

The time taken to close out deals is almost certainly due to the fact that players agents are evaluating options. Just because we want a player doesnt mean they can’t explore alternatives. They can take their time and make us sweat.
Also, with the quality of player we are looking to buy, there are fewer of them about and they may have more options.
Finally, European games are still going on so they may be waiting for those to finish before evaluating all of their alternatives.

But the problem remains that if we pay full wack for one player in the interests of getting him in early that could conceivably leave us short of funds for other players , leaving us to compromise on quality or omit recruiting a player or position entirely to the detriment of our managers plans.

Is he any good like?

Going off stats he seems to be tackle to tackle (over 2.5 per game) pass (50+ per game) and create (around 1 chance created per game) pretty well. You'd say they were the 3 things youd want from a midfielder in a 2?

I mean to gie some context, he tackles about as much as our best midfielder (Schneiderlin) did, but also creates similar amounts to Bernard/Iwobi and makes more passes than any of our midfielders (Delph is probably closest).

I saw him against Liverpool for Napoli, and was impressed. Does a bit of everything. Looks comfortable in a 2.

Drawbacks really are his age, and the fee associated which won't be small. At 29 can he aintain those levels, each week in England in a more powerful league? Also at 29, does a physical decline start to set in

There's no doubt to me the Allan of up to this season is a lot betterthan all our midfielders, but it's a time bomb as to when he might start falling back. So make of that what you will!
