Have that dreaded sense that another club will swipe him last minute like with hjoberg

There was nothing last minute about Hjobjerg, but yes the longer a transfer takes the more chance of someone else coming in (Gabriel is the better example).

Cant blame teh club for Gabriel though, nobody had any clue what was going to happen when COVID hit. Surprisingly the club were being pro-active in getting him in for a medical in feb/march. about 6 months earlier than when we usually work!

I always used to take this stance. But I think I was, and you are now, wrong.

I don't mean that rudely. But the idea that "it's not your money" means we can just throw stupid sums after players is the reason why we are in the mess that we are in.

If Koeman / Walsh / Allardyce / Silva / Brands started thinking / acting like the money they've spent on absolute manure WAS their money, they wouldn't have strangled our cash in relation to FFP.

That being said, £30m for someone who immediately improves us, on a 3 year deal, is something we should be looking to do.

mate Man City Lashed Money about and eventually it works.

This will be an excellent signing and another one for the moaners to moan about soon enough lol, decent age for a player as i am not one of these that say 29 etc is old [provided all goes well if we actually complete the move]

Took City a few years to get it right. They bought some serious amount of dross for big amounts (Benjani, Santa Cruz even Robinho to an extent) however they have a lot more money than us and were able to easily continue to pump out the cash for players. In one window they signed the right players though, 09/10 they brought in Gareth Barry, Kolo Toure, Tevez - then the following year David Silva, Dzeko, Milner and Yaya Toure. That season was the first time they finished in the top 4.

Allan could be one of those key players for us - he's the same age now as Barry was when he signed for City and he completely settled the midfield. Get him signed up.

I don't think it's as simple as that but each to their own.
I certainly don't advocating throwing money at it until our chairman or regulations say "no more". For me, that's where we are at now and we've arguably got a worse squad than Martinez's last season. That's regression.

The biggest mistake we made was totally wasting the Lukaku money on utter dross. That did so much damage to the team. The only recent signing that seemed crazy at the time was Iwobi. On paper Delph, Gbamin and Gomes looked like good signings, as did Mina. I think with 3 better players in CM and RB we’ll be fine nest season. But we’ll need a new GK, CB and striker on top of that to be really competitive.
